Down Goes Baylor

Even with last year's success, I still find Drew to be an awful gameday coach.

Drew is awful gameday coach, it took baylor being down 18 for him to finally get out of the zone. WSU was torching the zone the first 9 minutes of the second half but finally went to man defense.

Ekpe Udoh and Tweety Carter were really good.

BU is nothing more than a glorified AAU team. The sky would be the limit if they were actually coached.

This loss surprises me even for a Drew coached team.
I was expecting more from Baylor this year.
Looks like another walk in the park.

comical thread. Drew is a very good coach. Lace missed his first 12 3 attempts and all were good looks. AJ Walton will be a good PG by the end of this year, but it certainly makes a difference when you have an experienced PG running the show like Baylor had in Carter last year. Kansas will find that out once conference play rolls around and they experience some double digit losses on the road.

And newsflash: Washington State is probably the best team in the Pac10. Klay Thompson is as good as there is in the country. And they have 3 other really good players. Baylor will be fine by conference.

I love the anti-Drew talk though because I hope the perception nationally continues to be that he can't coach or that he is a "dirty recruiter" so that he is not pursued by other programs. I'm all for him being a lifer at Baylor.

Never thought I'd read someone say....so and so missed there first 12 3's.
LOL. That's the problem with Baylor. HELLO....do something different here. My biggest concern for Baylor is they have absolutely no depth.

Kansas will find that out once conference play rolls around and they experience some double digit losses on the road.
Well if that happens then Baylor will have a lot of double digit losses on the road. KU has more PG experience than probably anyone in the league with Taylor and Reed.

And newsflash: Washington State is probably the best team in the Pac10.
No. They will have to fight to be in the top 3. And newsflash...K-State beat them at Washington State and didn't even really play that good. WSU was blowing ya'll out by 20.

Klay Thompson is as good as there is in the country.
He's better than anyone Baylor has I give you that.

Baylor will be fine by conference.
They might be but I don't think any of us really know at this point. Once again they've played a crap schedule. They've really only played two above average teams and they got beat by both.
Hard to argue that point.

I think we all are.

I wish OU lacked depth like Baylor. Baylor is going to destroy OU this year. Acy, Perry Jones and Anthony Jones is a nice little rotation in the front court. They also use Fred Ellis and a backup center.

I agree they are bit light on in the backcourt. Dunn and Walton are good. After that they don't have much. Nolan Dennis and Stargell Love both get some time.

OU's problem with Baylor is that Baylor will have the better backcourt, better front court and probably the three best players in the game (if not more than 3).

I don't even want to think about a comparisson of OU to KU or Texas. Those two schools might have the 6 or 7 best players in the game.

Lol @ an okie Aggy criticizing Drew. He is 100 times the coach as hillbilly Travis Ford who at 41 years old has only 1 NCAA tournament win to his name.

Travis Ford is pathetic. Exactly what OUs little step child deserves.

Cheno- let me get this straight. If you were coaching Baylor, you would tell Lace Dunn to stop shooting from 3 if he's missing shots? Even though he's a career 40%+ shooter from 3? Baylor offensive rebounded 8 of those 12 misses because defenders were scrambling to get to Dunn. Would that a make a difference to you? Washington State packed their zone in tight and dared Baylor to shoot. Who else on Baylor do you want to shoot open 3's besides Dunn?

A legitimate critique of Drew is not recruiting another shooter to replace Carter. They thought Heslip from Boston College would be eligible 2nd semester but didn't work out for them. Nolan Dennis and Stargell Love can't shoot and they probably passed on many Tyrell Reed/BJ Holmes types that would fill a critical need for them this year. But Love was a key relationship in landing Miller/Bello so that gets a pass from me. And Nolan Dennis was thought to be a good shooter coming out of HS. The speed of the D1 game gives him problems.

Washington State is a good team but Baylor went on their run when Thompson got his fourth foul. Why did it take to get down 18 to finally switch to man defense? Drew has done a great job at Baylor but sometimes his in game coaching decisions makes me wonder what type of gameday coach he is. Drew has taken Baylor from one of the worst teams in the big 12 to one of the top 4 teams, which is amazing.

Baylor's size will give OU major problems. Cade Davis playing in the back of the zone will be brutal against baylor's size.

Dont worry about it hoopster. Drew has done wonders at Baylor and any objective intelligent person knows it. Cheno is threatened by any team that takes away from Kansas spotlight.

Bocabull- thanks. I know Cheno's game- I enjoy reading his posts even though I rarely see things the way he does. Merry Christmas to all the OU Hoopsters!

okcsooner- it is just a scheme issue. Most man to man teams don't play zone well and vice-versa. You practice what you play so coaches hesitate going away from it even if a team is having success. Baylor's run probably had a lot more to do with Thompson being on the bench and less to do with defensive scheme. Thompson was on fire and Dunn was ice cold until late in the game.

Yes. I'd tell any great scorer that missed 10 straight 3's to do something different. Dunn was 12 for 12 at the line. I'd have told him to penetrate and get to the line and get some rhythm. Baylor lost. Probably should have did something different don't you think?

Wow. Didn't know that. He's down that much and finally goes to man and then they make a run.

LOL. Yeah, I feel threatened.
I've said over and over Drew has done a great job at Baylor. He's done a remarkable job. They should keep him forever. Baylor can't get a better coach than Drew. It's Baylor.

But wait...I thought all Dunn's misses were a good thing because Baylor offensive rebounded/putback most of them?

OU wishes they had a coach as good as Travis Ford.

Jeff Capel ---NCAA tourney - (4-3) Overall - (161-92) 63%
Travis Ford --NCAA tourney - (1-3) Overall - (179-139) 56%

Yeah. Theres no comparison. Ford blows Capel away. wait....

I'll take Ford's 100% NCAA tournament appearance rate at OSU, over Capel's soon to be 40% (barring a very impressive turnaround).

Of course you would You're an aggy with low expectations. Hillbillies, drunks and drug addicts are the best you can get at that dump. You know who your daddy is. OU

So, failing to make the NCAA tournament more than half of the time is the expectations in Norman?
