Outside of OSU do they exist in the Big XII?

You local guys should call sports radio and ask this question in that manne. The local media must be on suicide watch

TCU stinks again. Also, I'm not sold on Tech either, but odd things can happen in Lubbock.

Outside of those three, the Big 12 will be a bloodbath.

And I have very little respect for the Oklahoma media in general....with a couple of exceptions.

Actually, the OKC area sports radio folks are fairly realistic about the OU and OSU basketball teams, when the topic of college basketball comes up. Right now, OU is getting the radio accolades that it has earned, while the OSU program and coach is getting the criticism that they have earned.

There are three different OKC area sports radio stations that I listen to on occasion .... KREF (AM-1400) ... The Sports Animal (FM-98.1) ... The Franchise (FM-107.7).

Of the three, my favorite by far is KREF, which is based in Norman and is focused primarily on OU sports. The problem with KREF is that it has a relatively weak radio signal, so folks on the north side of OKC have trouble picking it up. I get it fine here in southeast Oklahoma County. I sometimes enjoy Teddy Lehman's show which comes on at 2PM. James Hale comes on at 11AM and often has Sooner coaches, recruits and former players on for interviews.

I cannot abide Trabor and Eschbach on the Sports Animal. Trabor is too much of a drama queen for my taste, and Eschbach goes off on too many infantile topics.

I know a lot of OU fans get stirred up about perceived sports media bias that favors OSU, but I do not see it, or hear it.

Tech beat Hawaii. Be careful.

There aren't many easy road games in conference. I would hope that OSU, Tech, TCU, and K St would be but I'm not sure we can count on any of them being that easy.

.

I can't stand James Hale. I think he is lazy and stupid. He is the worst writer I have ever read that is paid directly or indirectly to write. I say this as a member of OUinsder. He has decent content but he refuses to even make an effort to improve his writing.

Your complaints are accurate. The lack of editing to his writings rub me the wrong way. Sometimes it is hard to understand what he has written. He does not seem to care one wit about this shortcoming, and that irritates me even more. But as you say, his content is decent.

On the plus side .... In the OKC radio market, he gets interviews from former OU players and coaches that no one else gets. He also focuses on OU, and on college sports. On the other radio stations, I cannot listen to the endless repetitive OKC Thunder diatribes. I am just not that interested in professional sports.

Yes Tech beat Hawaii....on the mainland. Over the last 15 years or so, Hawaii has had a few salty teams that were Tarzan at home, but Jane on the road. We will see if this year's version of Hawaii is different.

As for Tech, I'm not sold on them yet. They remind me of last years TCU squad that raced out to a great OOC record. They've scheduled well in that they have only played one really bad team (RPI-wise). They do have some nice wins (South Dakota St., Hawaii, and UALR), but they were all at home.....and they haven't played a true road game yet. The best team that they have played (Utah) beat them on a neutral court by 10. Tech may be better this year, but their current results haven't proven that to me yet.

Bugs me too, so much so that I offered my editing services to him for a while. It helped (or so I like to think), but the problem was the necessary quick turnaround. I have a full-time job and had to sneak in the editing while also performing that job and it just wasn't a tenable situation. Had my time been own -- if I were a freelancer (or otherwise unemployed) -- I think it could have worked out.

I never did get paid for the work I did, though I'm sure that wasn't intentional on their part. I just viewed it as an experiment that didn't really work out and let it pass.

Tech will be tough in Lubbock. They are well coached by Tubby Smith and while still young, have decent talent. If they hit 3's they are tough, but they aren't a good shooting team, and they aren't a good rebounding team. Good recipe to not be that good.

9th (out of 10) in 3pt percentage
9th (out of 10) in rebounding
9th (out of 10) in defensive rebounding %
8th (out of 10) in rebounding margin
8th (out of 10) in 3pt shots made

Can't shoot, can't rebound. They win with solid defense and getting to the free throw line a lot. In all their wins they make a ton of free throws.

Wow! That was quite an offer on your part. I wish the experiment would have worked out. Thanks for sharing this "insider" information.

Offering your editing services to JH took a lot of guts, Sky. Correcting his grammatical errors and misspelled words is one thing. But you would not have been happy by stopping short of a total rewrite. Misspelling a recruits name is inexcusable, yet it happens fairly often.

Truth is, James couldn't care less if he posts error-filled stories that don't always make sense. He knows OUI members will read them and complain openly on occasion, but on the whole they will overlook his mistakes and move on. It's been that way for a long time, and it's not likely to change now.

Yeah, definitely did some rewrites.

Many prominent writers need more help with their grammar and prose than we readers might realize. Editors are the unsung heroes of journalism. Sadly, among its many other failings, the Oklahoman also seems to have either cut back on its use of editors or is hiring underqualified people, because the number of mistakes and clumsy phrasings I see in their stories is rising.

They could get an intern for free. plenty of kids at OU that need experience.

Yes and no. It really depends on what level of quality that OUInsider was looking for. When I lived in NY, I took a class taught by Skyvue, so I know first-hand that he would do a far superior job than any intern. Regardless, it was certainly nice of him to offer his services...a major upgrade from anything James Hale could put together.

Traveler you probably already know, there is Gottlieb on CBS radio 105.3 at 2:00. Despite his Alma mater he is a great source for college basketball and other sports without the coastal bias. Just another reason to turn off Traber as if there aren't enough reasons already.
