First, if we hadn't fired Capel and hadn't added any new players, I thought we would have been about a 500 club next year. Almost the entire roster was new this year and was set to return, they improved through the year and all would have been improved next year. This also assumes Osby is an equal trade for Cade. I think if we had played the entire year like we did in conference play, we would have come close to 500 ball this year.

Again, even if Capel is back and we don't get any new players, but Osby is as good as some think he is and Goff shows up and gives us a defender and rebounder at the 5, I could have seen us as a winning team next year. Not great, but with a winning record. Frankly, with an easier overall schedule next year, I don't think it would have taken much to win a couple more than we lose next year.

With Kruger here, I guess I still feel like the above is true. However, if we were to land a top notch point and maybe another big that could contribute, I could see some real improvement. How much, I don't know but certainly a winning record overall, and maybe in conference.

not sure why so many think Blair needs to be improved upon that much. given the year of experience and some more buttocks and scoring inside I think Blair can be more than sufficient ... we have had worse at the 1 and done well.

it's inside and depth we need. inside and depth.

Depends on who we get in recruiting and how good those recruits are. With the roster if we win 15 games that's great.

I think it's a little silly to think we are going to sign someone at this point who will come in and be our starting PG over Blair next year, but IMO, we still have a big need for depth at PG. I think it would make a big difference if we had someone who could give us just a few minutes of competent play to spell Blair here and there.

Winning season and .500 in conference is where I am starting at.

There are still too many variables IMO. To be competitive, we need a couple of bodies that can contribute meaningful minutes. Without that, we'll be lucky to go over .500.

If Osby is good, if we get some depth at PG, plus another guy who can contribute in the post, then we should have all the tools to finish in the top half of the conference, depending upon the learning curve of implementing a new system.

Like I said, lots of variables, and I didn't even ponder what happens if someone gets injured or someone quits the team.

As a wild guess, I'm going to say 18 wins, and hopefully NIT.

I totally agree with this. I think that Blair can be serviceable. What we really need is some length in the front-court for rebounding and post defense IMO.

Better rebounding and better defense will win more games. So, my thought is that if we can get a big or two that can shore up the rebounding and interior defense, get the guards to play better defense, then we don't really need another PG because offensively, Blair is a good distributor and our young guards should be better than last year.

Some kind of a consistant offensive style & hard nose defense should get you 20 wins & back in the NIT.anything more is icing on the cake..Go Sooners!

15 games would be absolute garbage, imo. Capel won 14 games with much harder sched and less talent/experience this season. Capel would win more than 15 games with this team next season, and that's a certainty.

We only lost Cade Davis, and the combination of Osby/Goff will be way better than him.

We just paid Krugs $2.2 mill per year (not to mention we just paid JC $2.2 mill to GTFO for his 14-win season), he better win = or >20 (or darn close next year) every season or he is not good enough for OU.

I said 15 wins with the current roster. In other words if we get nobody in recruiting.

No it wouldn't be.
We won 15 games this year with the same freaking players.

Are you not including Osby/Goff in our current roster?

They are both going to be here + the exact same team as last season who managed 14 wins.

15 wins is never acceptable and Joe C agrees.

To early to say. I want to see our final roster, and to some extent, our schedule for next year.

Off the top of my head though, I'm thinking 20 wins, and a conference record good enough to land us between 4th and 6th in the conference.

That's why I basically said let's wait till we get more players. I don't think Osby is really any better than Cade. I bet his numbers will end up similar to Cade. Goff is the 6th man at his JUCO. I would be shocked if he's does a lot at OU. But I'll wait and see who we get in recruiting to really judge. I may end up predicting around 17 wins.

even if Cade and Osby are a wash, going from Capel to Lon is not. That alone will prolly equal 4 more wins IMO.
