Thanks to some backroom negotiating from Bud Wilkinson, Oklahoma A&M was invited to join (or re-join if you're really historical) the Big 7 Conference in the fall of 1958, transforming the league into the Big 8. 61 years later, we the Sooners wrapped up another regular-season sweep of the so-called basketball school.

Using the data provided by our good friends at Soonerstats, I decided to do a little digging into the numbers. Long story short, the Aggies owned our butts in the days of JFK and the Great Society, but the series has been ours since the Viet Cong turned Tet into an Offensive.

REGULAR SEASON SWEEPS:

OU - 22

('66, '68, '71, '72, '73, '78, '79, '82, '83, '84, '85, '88, '90, '99, '06, '08, '09, '14, '15, '16, '19, '24)

OSU - 11

('61, '62, '64, '65, '81, '94, '98, '04, '17, '21, '23)

Of these sweeps, several have been of the SUPER variety. I coined this term mere moments ago to indicate a year in which either the Sooners or Aggies added a victory in the Big 8/12 Holiday/Postseason Tournament to make a perfect 3-0 record for the slate.

SUPER SWEEPS:

OU - 4

('66, '73, '85, '15)

OSU - 2

('65, '23)

The Aggies are a football school now. Just ask them, they'll tell you. But I don't think our domination of them on the hardwood can be overstated. I'll give them credit, they took advantage of the opportunity Eddie Sutton's cash-filled envelope provided. He was not knocking down Stillwater's door from Lexington before the Chris Mills fiasco went Chernobyl all over the bluegrass.

I sure do like sweeping them. And I LOVE winning in Stillwater. I was present for sweep-cappers in both 2015 and 2016. How sweet it was!

EDIT: Updated the OT post while basking in another Sooner Sweep of the Aggies. Patent pending.

Great stuff, 04.

Care to post on Twitter ala Blinkin Riley style or may I post it in your honor?

Send it wherever you'd like. I don't tweet, but it's a narrative that I'd love to see make the rounds.

Traveler,

That was after the 2008 game. Blake was out, but the rest of the guys played really well. If memory serves, we didn't trail for much of the game....if any at all. Capel drew up a great play that fouled out Byron Eat-a-ton with about four to go and that was that.

I cannot remember the exact quote, but one of my favorite Jeff Capel memories was after a win in Stillwater, and while the team was celebrating in the locker room Coach Capel said something like "let's get dressed and get out of this hell hole."
Capel's quote was the first thing I thought of after McCollum hit the shot today.

I was going to look for this thread! From super swept to Sooner sweep in one year! Still not content with where the program is at, but this is a great step forward.

Their fans already talking about how they'll beat us in wrestling. Yep. You read that correctly. Wrestling.
