I don't really get the pick. They already have a point guard who can't shoot.

This is totally what their pick was about. He's not the 6th best player and certainly not the 6th best prospect in this draft. Definite reach by the C's.

I'm not Smart fan, and I didn't want my C's to draft him, but to say he isn't a top 6 (or very close to it) prospect in this draft is crazy. And you are going against every NBA scouting service also. Every mock. Every prospect ranking list. All had him in the top 4-7 or so.
 
That may be true but I just don't see what everyone else sees. He may prove me wrong but I don't see Smart being able to go bull-in-a-china-shop to the basket every other play in the NBA and be productive like he did in college. He has no mid-range game and is a terrible 3 point shooter.

He has about a 10% chance of being worth a 6th overall pick and about a 50% chance of being a total flop, pardon the pun. So, I give him about a 40% chance of being a borderline starter/6th-8th man in the rotation. Sorry for cramping your style Deano!
 
Smart will probably end up being about like Tyreke Evans. For what that's worth. He's too physically talented to be a total bust.
 
Except that Tyreke Evans is 6'6'' and Marcus Smart is 6'2''.... that's a big difference in the NBA, especially when you can't shoot.

I am skeptical.. I thought he would develop into a Kemba Walker type player but he doesnt have near the jumper Kemba has and he isnt that quick.

We will see though... He sure as hell isn't better than Rondo, that's for damn sure.
 
Dude is a tough player who competes on every possession. He desperately needs to improve his outside shot, and in the best case scenario will work on that all off season.

You're right. Mock drafts and draft experts/scouts are never wrong. I trust my own eyes. Didn't say he wouldn't be a good player. Just a reach, IMHO, at 6 and only made by the C's, IMHO, bc they're moving Rondo. Great motor/competitor, questionable character, good defender, NBA ready body, poor jump shooter, not a true point, low ceiling as a prospect, especially at that spot based on who was drafted after him. To me, he was late lottery at best. We'll see.

I was really hoping they were gonna trade him after the pick so I guess I'm gonna have to learn to tolerate him. This sucks because I love Rondo.
 
Curious to see how he takes coaching bc he's gotten none over the last 2 seasons.

He's vastly overrated. Very odd pick unless they trade rondo

If this is that surprising to anyone then they havent been paying attention to the draft.

1. it is silly to say he's not a top-10 pick. I will trust the opinion of EVERY NBA source because they all say otherwise. Personally I dont like him because he played at OSUx and he IS a flopper. But that doesn't mean he's not talented.

2. I dont know what Ainge's "plan" is but this move has been predicted for weeks. I also assumed Rondo was gonna be traded but I guess not. That does seem stupid.

3. as an aside ... many teams had Smart rated ahead of Exum.
