GAME 33 - OKLAHOMA (20-12) vs KENTUCKY (21-10) 8:30pm CST on SEC NETWORK

5.6 seconds is an eternity. You can’t let them catch it uncontested near half court. You just can’t. Hell, they didn’t even need 5.6. There was still half a second left when Oweh plunged the dagger in our hearts for the 2nd time.
yep you don't even have to double hard early .. just make oweh go backwards and slow down to catch the ball on the inbounds .. that makes kentucky hit a runner to win ..

Goodine being in at the end on the last play is a complete failure.

Wague not being in, also a failure.

Also, stupid ML bet.

Thanks for posting this. Coach Moser certainly deserves credit for the guys not quitting late in the year after those blowout losses. Also, unless he leaves on his own, he will be coaching OU next year. As such, regurgitating the same tired arguments accomplishes nothing. All that said, I wish he would explain his logic for having Goodine in the game at the end.

he thinks Goodine is one of OU's best defenders ..

the logic of not playing dayton more min is also very confusing as is not playing wague more min all Season

These arguments aren’t tired since we’re talking about a specific play that lost us the game literally a few hours ago.

I don’t trust Moser at all in that situation and for good reason. I’m not happy about the choices there but some of it is on players. This was not as bad to me as how he had guys defending (or not) Oweh in Norman. This game still stings but not nearly as bad as other close losses and chokes.

However, can you imagine the meltdown UK fans must have been having on Pope. If they had lost it would have been the ultimate Moser-like meltdown. Probably worse than any of our losses this year. This is one of the reasons I am not as mad about this loss. The fact that we got the lead was amazing.

Everyone knew on our last possession what we were going to do. Just like everyone knew in Norman what UK was going to do with Oweh. Yet, Fears got a layup. And we had to make a bunch of other plays just to get in that position.

Anyway, our effort still has me happy for the past few weeks about OU basketball. Best I have seen in 4 years.

Next year is another story and I think we are right back here commenting on the same things we have commented on the past 4 years. I still hate the state of the program.

But I have really enjoyed our recent wins and enjoyed most of the game last night. I just want to enjoy it before I start so much bitching again.

I was going to ask how long Ramadan is. That’s a problem!

I believe it goes until they sight the moon. One of my direct reports is taking the next 2 weeks off in observance so I expect that means Ramadan will be going on until after the first weekend of tournament.

these are almost my exact thoughts ..

Just rewatched the last play 4-5 times and I can’t believe how bad our defense was. We literally had 4 guys in a diamond zone at half court. That’s insane. You have to either pressure in the backcourt or pack it in the front court. The way we were aligned allowed Oweh to drive right by all 4 of them. And with no rim protection it was all over. As for them using football blocks I have no idea what you’re talking about. They set one weak screen on Goodine which caused him to give up. Everyone else was completely out of position. Coaching malpractice.

But pope won and pm lost. All things in order as they should be. Perfect balance.

If pope had lost it still wouldn't have been as bad as us losing to lsu imo

Couldn't post during the game, so i'm just now catching up. Proud of the effort by the team to remain in the game/take lead late/etc.

Woke up absolutely sick thinking about the effort/gameplan on the last play. Incredibly bad and inexcusable after the last time to let Oweh catch and turn the corner with no contest whatsoever. Goodine with quite literally the worst defensive effort i've ever seen, and it wasn't much better behind him. I just don't understand how the defensive play they drew up could possibly be what they thought would work.

I didn’t watch the game but here are my just overall general thoughts:

1. I don’t understand Moser’s love for Goodine. His stat line was awful. It’s just wild that in the age of the transfer portal he isn’t playing a freshman with obvious potential more when the senior who will be gone next year isn’t playing well. Can’t afford to lose a kid like Forsythe.

2. Moser clearly should have prioritized keeping Oweh over Moore last year. I understand it all comes down to $$ but man, not keeping Oweh was killer. Moore has not played well as of late.

3. Sounds like Moser had another chance to stop Oweh from getting the ball and scoring and just couldn’t do it. His late game coaching is very very poor. He deserves credit where credit is due but we better hope OU just wins by ten in their first round.

4. This game didn’t mean much other than another tough loss. I think OU is in the tournament either way as a 10 seed. I’m glad the team can go home and rest for a few days before playing in the tournament. I prefer that over getting hammered by Alabama in another late game.

5. Fears will be a pro next year.

Rewatch the play – the good blocking scheme by their offensive line – and tell me what Porter should’ve done differently.
faceguard oweh for one...then the defender doesn't get picked off, put Wag on the inbound pass to make it more difficult to throw it in...good lord it isn't that difficult.

PM clapped Pope up last year when they were at comparable programs. Now Pope is at the best program of all time with a budget 5-10x what ou has and could only win by 2 points total in 2 games. Took heroic buzzer beaters both times no less.
