Screw the pac-10....

Big 12 North: OU, OSU, KU, KSU, MU, ISU
Big 12 South: UT, TT, A&M, TCU, UH, BU

It would be better than the Pac-10 right away in football and basketball... Who knows how well TCU and Houston would recruit for both sports as members of a power conference, but I imagine they would become major players pretty quick.

Nobody wants to go 2,000 miles to watch OU play Washington State, or 1,000 miles to play Arizona, or 1,400 miles to play USC, or 2,000 miles to play Oregon.

I would rather watch OU and UT play for the Big 12 championship in Dallas than watch OU/UT play some clown school from the Pac-10.

As for basketball, it will be a sad day to trade Kansas (a top 3 program of all time) and Mizzou (a great series since the Big 12 formed for OU) for Arizona and whoever the hell else plays basketball in that league.

Make it happen, Joe C.

LOL, my biggest issue with that (oh no thinking football first) is the lack of OU-Texas every year in Dallas for football. Going to miss that.

Also since money is the driving factor, the lack of tv sets in that conference after the other conferences grow in size our TV deal wouldn't be enough.

I bet a lot more people want to go 1400 miles to play USC than want to go 600 miles to play Iowa State.

And every team loses millions of dollars that they'd get with the PAC 16 TV deal?

No, thanks.

Why in the world would the RRS shootout end? We played them for eighty-plus years without being in the same conference.

I don't buy KU as a top three hoops program -- top ten, sure, but not top three -- but otherwise I agree with abd.

I'll be they wouldn't. Folks will drive to Ames; few will drive to LA, at least after the novelty wears off.

They would be in the other division. How would OU play them every year? It is what happened to the Nebraska rivalry. Or are you saying that 2 out of every 4 years OU/Texas would be a non-conference game?

You just skip the Iowa State game... That would be the only unattractive game on the conference schedule. Just like you would skip going to Arizona and Washington State.

I am sure they will be fine. As a fan, you should care more about tradition, rivalries, etc over TV contracts. Fans shouldnt give a crap about a tv contract. I know I don't.

Like BOK said isn't that the same logic used when the Big 12 formed about the OU-Nebraska game? Who knows maybe that would work, but if it didn't work for OU-Nebraska why would it for OU-Texas?

3-5 years into the series about 10 people will go to LA, Cal, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington State, and Washington. I bet people wouldnt be thrilled about going 1,500 miles to Arizona either.

What tradition/rivalry do we hold onto by staying in the big 12?
Nebraska is already out the barn door and we will still be with Texas and OKSU.

It wouldn't end per se, but this is the same conference that was dumb enough to halt the OU-Nebraska rivalry and only have them play every other two years. It wouldn't shock me if they did the same thing to the RRS.

People aren't cheering a tv contract because, you know, "Yay! We got a tv contract! In your face!" It's about keeping our team best positioned to win championships. Which is what this fan does care about.

Of course we all care about tradition and rivalries. Those memories will always be there and we will think of them with great fondness. Sometimes you have to move on, though, to keep long-term goals of the athletics department intact.

I will be more than willing to make a long-term sig bet on this.

You are being naive then...eventually TV contracts and revenue generated have an impact on being competitive on the field.

Texas and OU will either be in the same division or different conferences. You can say the same thing about OU/OSU. That is the only way to have the freedom to schedule each other every year.

KU and Missouri in basketball...

Plus, I would be more excited with potential rivalries with TCU and Houston (if this hypothetical situation could happen) than I would with anyone in the Pac-10.

But, I enjoy the Oklahoma vs. Texas schools rivalry thing. I know that UT and Tech would still be with OU, but I would miss KU, KSU, and Missouri. Its a regional rivalry thing I guess.

I care about my university getting more money so they can upgrade academics, facilities and the campus. My school's future as a major university takes precedent for me over playing Houston instead of Washington State.

Plane tickets for 2 people (assuming you only go with two) to the west coast will run you about $1,000.00... Then hotel, food, tickets to the game, etc.

So will you be choosing the $1,500+ to attend a 4 hour football game by air or the 30 hour drive to watch a 4 hour football game?

Come on.....

You are being naive then...eventually TV contracts and revenue generated have an impact on being competitive on the field.

As long as the Big 12 had a BCS bid and Texas continues to breed great football players, they will be a major player just like they currently are. The schools generate enough money right now to win championships and they would if they stayed together in the future as well.

What about the rivalry with Colorado? Does that mean nothing to you?

You act like these schools would just fall apart and no longer be able to function if they don't join the Pac-10, lol.
