Get TCU and Houston and save the Big 12....

You act like these schools would just fall apart and no longer be able to function if they don't join the Pac-10, lol.

No, but I'll take improvements over the status quo every day of the week.

KU and Missouri in basketball...

Plus, I would be more excited with potential rivalries with TCU and Houston (if this hypothetical situation could happen) than I would with anyone in the Pac-10.

But, I enjoy the Oklahoma vs. Texas schools rivalry thing. I know that UT and Tech would still be with OU, but I would miss KU, KSU, and Missouri. Its a regional rivalry thing I guess.
Maybe so for KU and Mizzou in basketball but the advent of the Big 12 really stalled that out. Ever since it has gone to once a year in basketball I don't think the "spark" has been there as it was in the Big 8 (most likely the wrong guy to be judging it because of my youth).

I will miss KU, KSU and Mizzou to some extent but it isn't enough to make me wish that my university wouldn't pursue what could/should be better for them in the long run.

I look forward to home and home with Arizona in basketball and I think that would become a nice little rivalry if our bball program could avoid our tailspin.

I am sure they will be fine. As a fan, you should care more about tradition, rivalries, etc over TV contracts. Fans shouldnt give a crap about a tv contract. I know I don't.

Good thing you're not running a conference or university then.

Fans make decisions with their heart, businessmen use their brain. The travel aspect is one of the most overblown angles out of this whole thing.

Plane tickets for 2 people (assuming you only go with two) to the west coast will run you about $1,000.00... Then hotel, food, tickets to the game, etc.

So will you be choosing the $1,500+ to attend a 4 hour football game by air or the 30 hour drive to watch a 4 hour football game?

As long as the Big 12 had a BCS bid and Texas continues to breed great football players, they will be a major player just like they currently are. The schools generate enough money right now to win championships and they would if they stayed together in the future as well.

Texas will start their own network, suck the conference dry of television revenues. The business model doesn't work to stay in the Big XII.

"We have a very, very strong sense from our television partners that the revenue stream would be very, very good going forward," Castiglione told The Oklahoman. "Better than where we are today."

Castiglione said he continued to work toward a solution to save the Big 12, which he said can still thrive -- in competition and on the balance sheet.

"I understand people are writing this like the ship has sailed and there really isn't any way the Big 12 could stay together," Castiglione told the Oklahoma City newspaper Thursday. "I just don't think this is true. I think there's still a way for us to stick together and be viable. Whether we do or not, I don't know."

You should be stoked about the new Kansas/Tulsa rivalry that will dominate C-USA

Joe was just spouting the company line. He can now say to KU etc. that we tried as hard as we could to save the Big 12. He can also use this in negotiating the OU exit fee from the Big 12 down.

I am worried about Dragen's wrath in Waco for us leaving Baylor out to dry.

Think of all the Juco talent in the West of the Mississippi 16 region

I bet a lot more people want to go 1400 miles to play USC than want to go 600 miles to play Iowa State.

Wouldn't the more fair comparison be how many people will drive the 2,000 miles (estimate) to Oregon St than drive to Iowa St? LOL.
I mean really you wanna compare USC to Iowa State?
I guarantee you more people would drive to TCU than USC. No doubt.

You are being naive then...eventually TV contracts and revenue generated have an impact on being competitive on the field
.
To a point. We're not talking the revenue generated for the Missouri Valley. We're talking a still very popular and viable Big 12. Texas athletic budget is huge now. The last list I saw of the top 20 athletic budgets 5 were in the top 20 with Texas being #1. Anyone seen a list for this year?

Memphis is a perennial power. Duke is a probably the top hoops program without a huge amount of money. Tradition, support, etc mean a lot to recruits.

Exactly... its silly to suggest otherwise.
