Gotleib on Cezar Guererro

Blair could be a good PG if he doesn't turn it over so much. I'm not sure about Newell. I think we just need to let him be a 2 guard, and see what he can do there.

Unlike when TMG came here...We actually have Newell and Blair on the team. We also have a lot of experience players here unlike when TMG was here. So it would be a lot easier to put Guerrero in his place than it would have been with TMG. Didn't really have a pg other than TMG and besides Crocker and Wright...Not a lot of maturity and guys with experience on that roster.

You do realize that this team is just as young if not younger than last years and two of the current players on this team got caught shoplifting right?

Did anyone else notice that for more than a few minutes we were playing 3 freshmen and 2 sophomores during the KU game?

Opinion sure changed when it looks like he ain't comming here.

From what I've seen the dude has the ability to become another TJ Ford just as easy as a bust. We need all the scoring threats we can find.

Gottlieb has better connections through out the basketball world than any us on this board combined but I really doubt if he has seen Cezar play live. I really don't recall Gottlieb getting around and watching a ton of AAU and High School ball as that isn't his job, he's a college bball guy first. I'll take Capel and company's opinion on Cezar over Gottlieb's in this case.

the same thing happened when TJ left the team in December. Its quite comical

Let's be honest, this is the time of year where a Top 50-150 guy that hasn't comitted gets some love and hype, a couple months from now, JUCO's will be difference makers. If you were a HS recruit, why would you EVER sign early?

Like Jeff has shown the ability to evaluate talent and character. :ez-laugh:

The only reason i could see is if you got an offer from your dream school, and you dont want any distractions during your sr year.

Its the same thing OU football fans do when we lose a commit as well.

And trust me its comical then too. I think we need him as he is the best high school point left. If we dont get him i think we will be scrambling again in the late period. that is not a good thing

I'm not a big Capel fan either at this moment but actually he's done a decent job of identifying talent and character. He just can't close with most. Last season kids like Harrison Barnes, Terrance Jones, Ray McCallum were all great players and kids. Yes he has missed pretty badly and that is why his job is in jeopardy but I like to think he at least has half an idea of what he's doing.

Capel has made some mistakes in recruiting but I will take his opinion on a kid over a guy who doesn't get out to high school and AAU circuits like Gottlieb.

I didn't mean it to sound like I wouldn't take Guerrero. I just like passing pgs better. At this point, I'd take any pg that has a pulse.

I think he has evaluated talent and character. His problem is getting them in the same individual. Willie, TMG and Tiny all wanted to come to OU. Was there any way that Capel could have turned them down? If they had turned out bad at another school would he have been given credit for saying no? Or would he have been blasted on this board for not taking them before their character came to light.

He may be similar to TMG in that one respect, but I dont see him being nearly as good as TMG. TMG had a bad attitude and played little defense, but he has a great ability to score and could set people up when he wanted to. His pull-up jumper was pretty unstoppable at times. Plus he was much better built for the Big 12 than Guerrero. It wouldnt surprise me to find out that TMG was on steriods. But thats just a random thought that I had each time I saw his 18-year old body that was as built up from day 1 as it was.

Anyways, my point being that TMG was a 4-star MAA and Guerrero is a 3-star flashy highschool player that may not make much more impact than Jai Lucas if he tries to play in the Big 12. Wouldn't suprise me if he settled for somewhere like Florida International either now, or 2 years down the road after not cracking a KU or UT lineup.
Guerrero is a 4* just like tmg was

I would be more than happy to get Guerrero, being a scoring PG provides a perfect contrast from Blair, and would create a more balanced roster.

Gottlieb said today that Cezar is a tough guy to play with because of how much he attempts to score. He gave the kid props, but mentioned he didn't think he fit at OSU with Nash. He said the kid can score really well.

Well wherever he goes, it sounds like he's gonna need to check his ego at the door.
