Did Smart drop yesterday with that performance? Turnovers, bad shots, bad decisions. He needs some seasoning before he goes pro. But money always wins out. He'll be playing in Turkey or Greece next year.

Well there are only two rounds, so I doubt he dropped out of the draft completely. If you want to take Turkey and Greece, I will take that bet.

Marcus Smart will still be top 5, most likely. He has already been thoroughly evaluated by scouts and has a very good track record, so one poor game will likely not hurt his stock by more than a spot (at most). The tourney means a lot more to mid-major prospects who haven't already played against good competition (like Nate Wolters, for instance).

Decisions aren't made on one game. It is the body of work and he has that.

What's his body of work? He's a really good player, but what is spectacular enough about him to warrant a top 5 pick? I guess I'm blind because I don't see it.

I don't think he will go Top 5, but name your Top 10...go.

All are going to have development question marks.

Due to the fact that it's a very weak draft class. He would be crazy not to declare this year.

He has had a pretty good year for a freshman. He also already has an NBA body and really good basketball instincts.

Again, gambling constantly on defense is not good basketball instincts. Having an NBA body and having a pretty good year is not enough.

You have your opinion and I have mine and I say he will go in the top 10 and make a team. Since he plays for OSU I could care less, but I think the kid is a good player.

He will go in the top ten. Never said he wouldn't, and all players drafted in the first round make a team. I'm saying, unless he improves in many areas he won't last long.

I agree with you. Not ready for sure.

He definitely needs at least one more year in college.

Haha, you and I both know he would be insane to not enter this weak draft, so ready or not he's coming out.

You are half right. NBA doesn't make decisions based on one game, but it's far more about potential than body of work. He will be a high draft pick because of the potential he has, not because of what he did or did not do for the pokes.

For what it's worth, Marcus Smart's body of work has been excellent this year. Statistically, he was the clear #2 freshmen, behind only Nerlens Noel, and well clear of the rest of the field. http://public.tableausoftware.com/shared/S9NDR62YC?:display_count=yes

That, plus the fact that he is younger than most freshmen (except Noel) makes him a tremendous prospect--just from actual performance this season.

Plus the potential from scouting, and you have a clear top 5 pick. I would probably pick him 2nd behind Noel.

WW was in a very similar position after his freshman year, and he came back.

Landry Jones was probably a top 10 pick last year, and he came back.

It's actually fairly common. I don't know what he will do, but with his competitive nature (not wanting to leave OSU with a single loss in the NCAA Tournament), and having his best friend on the team, I wouldn't be shocked at all if he came back.

What kind of family did he come from? How badly/quickly do they need money?

A pretty poor one. Forte's dad owns the house Smart's mom lives in.

If Marcus Smart asked me what he should do (obviously that will never happen) I would just say two words to him.....Ryan Minor.
