If Capel is not frozen out of AAU; then why

I don't care what anyone thinks of Capel as a coach, this statement is unsubstantiated and irresponsible.

I agree with this.

As most of you know, I've been very critical of Capel, but I don't buy the accusation he threw OT "under the bus".

I think, as someone else mentioned above, OT threw himself under the bus by helping Tiny secure the 3K. Once it came out that OT was involved, we had no choice but to cut ties with him.

I would like to know if Capel knew about the transaction. I like to believe he did not know, but I don't follow how a head coach wouldn't know what his assistants are doing in regards to recruiting players.

As for the AAU coaches...if all we can get from AAU are the TMG's and Tiny's, then maybe it's a good thing Capel is "frozen out of AAU".

Jeff needs an assistant with AAU connections, every staff has someone that does.

Maybe because OU hasn't recruited any 2011 Dallas area AAU players hard this year. The DFW area doesn't have many great PGs in the 2011 class or Big men. The two needs the staff has identified.

The staff is still working hard on the Dallas area for 2012 and it seems they have at least made some good connections. As much as I'm not on the Capel bandwagon at the moment even I'm not going to pile on the guy by jumping at rumors like this.

Based on what i saw OU needs everything. But even if we get them most probably will leave based on Capel's track record.

The bottom line on recruiting is this:

1) Bad record the past 2 years.
2) Opposing coaches telling recruits we are going to get in trouble with the NCAA over Tiny Gallon.
3) Opposing coaches telling recruits that Capel isn't going to be here long because of #1.

I don't see Capel as a bad recruiter. I see Capel as putting too many eggs in the top 50 prospect basket and not having a good back-up plan when those guys go to KU, North Carolina, Kentucky, Duke, or somewhere else.

Capel has signed the following top 100 players at OU:

1. Tony Crocker (could argue Sampson)
2. Keith Clark (could argue Sampson)
3. Blake Griffin
4. Tony Neysmith
5. WW,
6. Ray Willis
7. Tiny Gallon
8. TMG
9. Pledger
10. Fitzgerlad
11. TJ Taylor
12. Cam Clark

Capel also signe Chris Early, Bobby Maze, Jaun Pattillo, and several other solid players, including Cade Davis and Tyler Neal (we need more guys like that at OU - those good players that weren't necessarily top 100 players have been the back bone of OU basketball).

Nah the university obviously should have clung to OT like grim death at the risk of burning the entire athletic department to the ground so they wouldn't risk bumming out any AAU coaches.

:clap:clap:clap:clap

yea, i dont think the problem is the recruiting...it is the retaining...

college coaches are gonna miss on players, unfortunately Capel has not only lost a large number of players...but has also lost some excellent talent as well...

I dont think we would be talking much about it if he loses the likes of Hardrick, Cannon, Neysmith...instead we are losing guys that equal wins...last year really hurt Capel and his chances at staying here for the long term...i still believe in him as a coach, but part of being a great coach is getting the right players and he has failed so far in that...

I do believe if he stays he will continue to attract the best players in america, the question is, will they stay?

Is it now allowed to "attack" posters? Sweetness.

No one should ever let facts get in the way of an arguement.

What facts can you present that Capel "threw OT under the bus"?

I'll stick with what I said, that statement is unsubstantiated and irresponsible. That's not an attack.

I wouldn't seeing Jeff Webster as an assistant. Would Webster want something like that?

Jeff is very happy where he is and has never indicated he wanted to do anything else. It's a sweet gig. His son and his team are his big focus, and this is not the time to bail out on that. Don't think there's much chance of his becoming a college coach - assistant or otherwise. At least not until his son graduates.

What class is his son again?
