Kevin Bookout worked out for the NY Jets

Ok, I love me some Bookout but, if there is not better players available from all who played collegiate football something is wrong.

Is this the same guy that many said is not a good athlete. He starts as a freshman basketball player in the Big XII, he was the top baseball player in the state of Oklahoma as a senior in high school, he came close to making the Olympics and now he gets a try out in the NFL yet people actually clame he is not a great athlete. Some people have a very limited definition of an athlete.

Wow, that's surprising. Hope he makes the roster.

It worked out for a guy named Antonio Gates...the difference is, he was 22 years old when he went from the Elite Eight to the NFL, not 29. I would love to be wrong, but I'm putting the over-under chances at 1%.

I hope for the best for Bookout, but 30 is anceint in the NFL especially for non QBs and Kickers.

Don't forget about three time super bowl champ Stephen Neal. (4x AA and 2x NC in Rasslin)

I always said Kevin chose the wrong sport. He always looked like an offensive tackle to me. Heck of a hoops player, but could have been an all-pro left tackle.

agreed. he received some bad advice...unless he did it for health reasons in which case he may have made a wise choice.

I thought book out was supposedly a great student? What is still doing close to 30 playing around in the gym?

So you should only play the sport you have a chance at being the best at?

May he simply enjoyed baseball/basketball/shot put more than he did getting beat on in 100 degree heat? Nothing wrong with that.

his dream was to make the Olympics and he pursued that dream. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Wow, I'm not ripping on a great Sooner. But if he's really trying football at this age, isn't that kinda admitting you might have missed your true calling. It's his life and he can do anything he wants, I just always thought his biggest upside would have been football. His body was made to be a great OL, but If he didn't like playing he did the right thing. I just hope he didnt get some bad advice when he was young and dominating everybody in hoops because he was so much bigger than them.

in fairness he was never that close to making the olympics

he didn't have the "A" standard

IMHO if he wanted to make it big in a sport he should have stuck with Baseball

If you are at the Olympic Trials you are close. I just don't get why so many people have to belittle others by acting like "well he wasn't that close".

Lets be clear - Neither you nor I could get invited to an Olympic trial. We simply lack the ability to be in the Top 10 at anything related to sports. It is a huge accomplishment.

I would love it if he took the final roster spot away from Teeeeebowwww, but if I have my Kevin Bookout ducks in order:

1- Played D-League after not making the NBA
2- Tried to make the Olympic team in shot put, but didn't make it past the trials
3- Trying out for the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent in a sport he hasn't played since 9th grade

At this point, it sounds like he's trying to be a professional athlete when he should probably be just a professional.

Idea: Coaching. He can stick with athletics since it seems to be his passion in life without having to compete, himself. Get him a grad assistant job, Lon!

so the 5000 entrants at the swimming Olympic trials were all "close" to qualifying

Denversooner vs. bouldersooner.

Makes my head spin. (I think I've said this before)

No, but those who finish in the top ten in any given event, even if they don't make the team, might well feel they came close. And who's to argue?
