Ty Lazenby

Kameron McGusty
9.3 ppg, 1 rpg, 0.3 assists... 33% 3pt shooting

I'll take Kam, you can take Ty. At the end of the season I will happily revisit.

He knows that, but he's just highlighting that an unknown, who people don't expect much, can contribute just like one of the stars, but you already knew that.

They play on the same team... The overall point was that we may have several capable scorers/shooters on the wing between McGusty, Lazenby, and James. If Lazenby comes off the bench and knocks down 3's, gets to the line, gets some rebounds/assists, he will be worth his weight in gold...

OU's Starters:
PG: Trae Young
SG: Kameron McGusty
SF: Rashard Odomes
PF: Kristian Doolittle
C: Khadeem Lattin

OU's Bench:
PG: Jordan Shepherd
SG: Christian James
SG: Ty Lazenby
PF: Brady Manek
C: Jamuni Mcnease

Hannes Polla whenever needed

I've been more impressed with Lazenby than I thought I would be. I think there are situations where he will help us. He's court smart and can shoot from outside or dribble drive pretty well. His defense needs some work. I'm certainly not saying he should replace McGusty as a wing starter. Ty has James in front of him as the first wing off the bench for good reason, but there will be games where he has the hot hand and really helps us.

My thoughts exactly. I openly questioned several weeks ago why our coaches offered Ty a scholarship? I know why now. He's better than I thought he would be. Our coaches were right and I was wrong. There, I've said it. Proudly I might add. I also said I would love to be wrong about him.

McGusty is still at the top of my list of wings on this team. But, as thebigabd said, Lazenby gives us one more wing who can score from multiple positions. There is no such thing as a team with too many players who can score.

This team looks miles ahead of last years. That second unit may beat last years starters

it really is amazing, the difference. I see 12 guys that could actually contribute. The big question...will any redshirt?

Tons of different combinations, no real "foul limit"...should be a fun season.

Agreed. But the biggest question may be how do you keep twelve guys happy if no one redshirts? As you said, they're all capable of contributing. Quality depth is a blessing. Could it also be a curse?

A "fun season " to be sure!

When defense is emphasized more, you will likely see that number dwindle (it has to).

We can't go 12 deep. There just aren't enough minutes. And I feel that Freeman will probably be one that doesn't seem much.

We know that the following will receive a large chunk of the minutes:
Trae
Kam
Odomes
Doolittle
Lattin

Key reserves:
James
McNease
Shepard

That's 8 already

So you are left with limited minutes for Ty, Polla, Manek, and Freeman

It's a good problem to have but running 12 deep isn't going to happen

Good point. Defense could easily determine who plays and who sits? There are definitely some noticeable differences in at least two positions right now.

I continue to be pleased with what I see from Ty. Sure, some of that may change when he's forced to confront better athletes. But I sure like his demeanor on the court.

This is the most depth at OU since perhaps ever. Unless you count football. Defense really will determine most of it along with the level of competition. With so many fouls to give will Lon expect a more physical intense attitude inside that we haven't seen since Kelvin? Or will he want to play faster?

A good question to ask Lon is has he ever had this much depth.

With trae, I don't think slow is an option.

I love Kam but I wish he'd stuff his rebounding and steals stats a tad more.
