March Madness and Covid-19

I can't fully get on board with your last sentence of the bolded paragraph. But a smart person realizes that all politicians are all the same. They fight on tv and then all hangout after eating caviar at the expense of us common folk. Theyre all crooks

Agreed. I hate just about all career politicians. Both sides. I personally don't think we should allow it.

It's also one of the reasons I liked Trump winning. He isn't a politician. He doesn't think like they do. Some may think that is good, some bad, but it's at least a change from the same old thing we've had in office for how long?

And I agree as well for the "status quo" can become the "status blows."

Hes not... hes the leader of the free world. Elected by a huge beat down via the electoral college against "the most qualified candidate for president ever". And YOUR president :ez-laugh:

Are you saying that means he isn't a liar? He's not a nut? It's fine to think he isn't a nutcase, but just because he is President doesn't mean he isn't one.

Reread this entire thread you derp da derr. Many times righties say they wish hed speak or act differently at times and do things differently at times.

I already addressed that... What things regarding the coronavirus issue do you wish he would do differently or had done differently? I am not going back to read 2,500 posts again.

Do you libs understand that USA isn't the only country with the virus?

Yep, sure do.

Everyone wants to travel to and from the USA?

I guess?

We do commerce with the entire world?

Uh huh...... Yep, got it.

That pandemics have occurred before and will occur again?

Yep.

Soooooooo, how does that address anything? A nice big steaming pile of word salad, but you didn't actually say anything.

Let me go back to the ask.

"Ok, so he closed the travel from China. Did he do everything you would have expected a President to do? What about his response to this do you admire? This is a legitimate question... I want to consider your point of view. From the beginning, what did he do right, and what did he do wrong?.. I'd rather not go reading through 2,500 posts in case I missed it. Would any of you be willing to put a quick bullet list down?"

If you don't want to do that, I get it. Is anyone who loves Trump willing to do that?

Term limits are certainly one of the reforms our system needs.

You can be an outsider and still be a respectable human being, a role model, truthful, intelligent, etc. Hopefully after this fiasco those are some qualities future voters look for.

I dont know that any early actions other than closing travel could have been expected of anyone. My existing gripe (other than trump's being trump) was the waiting for testing - the whole thing with his son-on-laws' brother owning the company that benefits from the slow down just annoys me as does any of that crap be it Biden or the Clintons of Trumps or whoever. I am sick of the rich constantly benefiting at the expense of workers.

I was worried about this 15 day thing and trump's emphasis on Easter but it appears he let smarter minds prevail and that press conference before last was actually a big step forward in my opinion.

the little just in time inventory thing he's trying to do with the ventilators ... I get it and it's a good idea given the need and the lag before our mfg. response kicks in. you can't ask him to take central authority and then balk when he does it and exercises control.

I think I am giving and have given trump a fair chance all along. it's his idiocy that turned my stomach on him.

We may not agree on the political spectrum CoolM, but this is a very fair take. Like you, I wish we would've been more prepared on the testing front.

IMO, Trump and his team deserve some blame. I also believe the W.H.O. has botched this from the beginning as they cuddled up to China and took them at face value. Fauci wasn't really on high alert until late January....he initially thought it was a more severe type of flu. Birx has said multiple times that she didn't think we could do much until we had more documented evidence of what exactly we were dealing with...and to attempt to make policy recommendations with so much uncertainty would have been imprudent. Sen. Tom Cotton was one of a very few who were sounding the alarm early. But a majority of the Legislative branch (both parties) were distracted with impeachment...to a certain degree. I think Governors are getting somewhat of a pass on this as well.

The expectation that the Federal Gov't is ever going to move swiftly and efficiently in order to resolve an issue of this magnitude is misguided. The Federal Gov't doesn't have a good track record in this sense. And we've never faced anything like this before. That's why bringing the private sector was a move that will save tens of thousands of lives.

There are a growing number of "Monday Morning QBs" on this, but to me, there is plenty of "blame" to go around. But now is not the time......there will be plenty of opportunity to "post mortem" the actions/in-actions once this has passed.

One more thought on career politicians....

The impeachment process put them on full display, and it's amazing how some of these people have legitimate power. Some of them are complete goobers, an equal amount, on both sides. More in the House than the Senate.

I like some of them, again, on both sides... but man, some of them are total jackasses.

What's weird is that you guys can't pull your head out of your ass and criticize this guy for anything. Nothing he says bothers you... Nothing he does bothers you. None of his actions, words, or policies are worthy of your disdain. You can't bring yourself to agree with valid criticism. You can't bring yourself to bring forward valid criticism. If you do, you basically dip your toe in the water and say "ok, I don't like what he said, but its a lot of other peoples fault too!!!"...

Believe it or not, you guys have a relationship with Donald Trump that isn't that different than with a cult leader, or like brainwashed people in North Korea with Kim Jong-Un. He is basically a deity to you guys.

You’re ridiculous. I get it, you hate trump. Every president and US government response to a major crisis in the last 50 years has been botched to some degree and the government has been slow to respond. Except 9/11 but that’s a whole different animal.

You act like the government never screwed up before trump. He’s handling it now and doing a much better job. Of course, you’ll keep hating on him and him alone no matter what he does. So what’s the point?

Apparently, the world was perfect before trump was elected by the American people. I hear Trump is responsible for original sin and he causes birth defects in newborn children.

You willingly ignore other lying politicians and blame everything on trump. You’ll likely keep doing that no matter what happens from here on

Abd's anger is not our responsibility.

I agree completely. The constitution was never intended to create a career in politics. You can’t represent the people while you’re part of the wealthy 1%. In America, there is no such thing as an honest politician anymore. The honest ones get crushed under the wheels of the machine. The money talks and controls the actions of the politicians that it buys.

We need term limits and a Salary cap on our elected officials. Being a politician should not be a path to wealth and power. It should be a civic duty to represent the interests of all American citizens.

I am not sure it is term limits and the salary cap that is needed as much as campaign finance. It is the campaigning and fundraising that leads to multiple terms. It prevents a newcomer from being able to unseat someone setting in Congress as they can raise funds and getting support from lobbyists the minute they are elected. Eliminate that and you get new blood in Congress.

But don't kid yourselves, the Founding Fathers and early elected officials were the social and political elites of their generation. They were the 1% so to speak. The difference is they didn't get there through their representation which is what happens now.

I think there are other parts of term limits that lend to a healthier democracy... The points you raise are valid about campaign finance, but something else is the decisions you make when you know you have to run for office again. It wasn't a coincidence that Jeff Flake and the other guy (forgot who it was) broke ranks on some stuff because they knew they weren't running again. There is definitely a connection to the tribalism of the parties and having to run another election. They seem more willing to vote their truth belief on an issue when they know it won't cost them an election.

That is just one example, but I think term limits solve quite a few problems.

Couple of notes I see:

  • Louisiana reported 2,700 new cases today.
  • Trump invoked the Defense Production Act for ventilators
  • Trump tested negative for Covid-19 after a second test

No. But we of course have the benefit of hindsight. Whch a lot of you people are severely discounting. Trump doesnt have the luxury to just say eff it and crash the markets and 100000's lose their jobs and money and it turns out to be Y2K..

Now, i wish he would have completely shut down ALL travel in and out. No exceptions. All foreign Americans stay where they're at and lay low and deal with it. No travel out of country for X amount of months or one way travel only..

Our system has politicians making decisions for people that have problems that the politicians have never had and never will have and when they would be affected by it, they exempt themselves... see: obamacare

Make the house have term limits imo. Repeal 17th amendment as the framers intended and allow the state legislatures to put in effective senators with no term limits. Imo.

Exactly my point.
