March Madness and Covid-19

Going to a hair salon, or anywhere that people are for that matter, is not a no-risk situation. The fact that somebody who cuts hair happened to have COVID is not that alarming by itself unless multiple clients test positive. We already know that carriers exist in every field.

I would say that it’s far more risky to sit within arm’s length of someone for an extended amount of time sharing their breath. I don’t really see why that’s even a controversial statement.

I think at this point it's "vaccine or bust" and no one really knows if or when a vaccine will be available.

When the dust settles, I think data will support several types of treatment including anti-inflammatory (for cytokine storm), anti-coagulation (or at least anti-platelet), and non-pharmacologic respiratory treatments (i.e. awake proning).

I specifically said that getting your hair cut is not a no-risk situation, as is anything else that increases your exposure to other people.

Right I know, but there are degrees of risk. Driving your car is not a no-risk situation but it’s safer driving 55 on the highway than driving 150 on the autobahn

Good point. Eventually the best practices will be established for treatment

Going to a sporting event/concert with 100,000 screaming fans would make sense as a comparison to driving 150 MPH. Going to your hair salon in an area that has low rates of infection seems a lot more like driving 55 MPH on a highway.

better to just cut your own hair with a #4 guide and some clippers.

All it takes is one client out of hundreds to give it to the barber/stylist, then that barber/stylist exposes hundreds of others. Seems like a recipe for disaster to me but YMMV.

Conversations like this can invoke the use of grey matter and it can also invoke agendas. You see it at play when it comes to houses of worship. People generally go to houses of worship to deal with their personal faults, which we all have, yet people are allowed to go to the local liquor store to compound their faults. Just weird.

Going to a store for 5 minutes with 3 people in the same building is not the same as being in a building for an hour with 100+ people.

By the way, the university of Michigan says that if the campus is closed in the fall they won’t play football

Yep a church in Houston that had reopened had to close again after the pastor died of Covid-19 and several families in the congregation were infected.

We don't know how many people are where. We also don't know how many times they are frequented. Nor do we know where the best safety practices are to be utilized. And we don't know the ages of those in attendance. It also seems that outdoor services were nixed in some instances.

If you enter a liquor store and leave can you contaminate the air to the point in which it affects others not yet in the store? All of these variables have a hand when determining who is actually at risk. If we are to wholly reduce the unknowns then watching "Little House on the Prairie" will be of benefit. Who wants to tumble down the hill first?

I disagree with all of this. You can tell how much a place is frequented by the sales. Social distancing & smaller gatherings are highly encouraged as good safety practices. The older demographic is the majority population in churches. Online services are happening & the best option.

Huh?

People still get their haircut during flu season. Every time you've ever left the house you've exposed yourself to viruses.

Liquor stores have to stay open, otherwise the hospitals would be filling up with alcohol withdrawal -- which might be the single most annoying hospital admission.
