March Madness and Covid-19

We also have one of, if not the most, obese populations on Earth, and obesity appears to be a strong risk factor. But I'm really tired of arguing with you about this. You don't know what you're talking about.

I expect the NCAA will do the right thing and play their games in empty arenas so the fans and players will be protected. The NBA is starting to do this now, as reported today. This pandemic is only getting started here.

because 200 people in 90 bar/restaurtants to watch the game instead would somehow be better??

As opposed to 10,000 in one arena who traveled from different places all over the country? WAY BETTER! MILES BETTER! EXPONENTIALLY BETTER!

Two Tulsa football players are being quarantined, and Holland Hall is shutting down classes for the rest of the week after somebody confirmed to have CV has been in contact with several students.

When can I go home and not work? :)

Or obese, or a smoker, or immunosuppressed.. that's why healthy people should try not to catch it and spread it.

And don't forget to list diabetics. There are over 31 million Americans with diabetes and that doesn't mean they are old, smoke or are obese. Those Americans are more susceptible as well.

The mistake a lot of Americans, and many on this board, are making is saying, "I am younger than 60 and not in bad health, everything is fine" and not realize how contagious it is, actually more deadly than the common flu under 60, and the number they come into contact with they may not be in the same health or willing to take the same risk as they are as individuals. Instead, they shrug this off and the reality is, probably haven't changed one single thing in their daily habits since this hit home.

Correct me if I'm wrong, steve, but I believe that is the message we are trying to get across to those who are thinking this is all panic.

This is just the beginning.

Would you just acknowledge that your simple division is not a rational method to understanding the problem at hand?

You are correct. My message is to stop blowing this off and take measures now. Stop acting like this is just a cold and that if I'm under 60 I shouldn't care. My message is to also expect interruptions in your daily lives, because this is like nothing we've seen before in our lifetimes. But definitely don't panic, sheesh.

unless you are calling for closed businesses no work and a full shutdown of life ..

the ship has left the station

for lots it is no different then a mild cold .... and people don't run to the doctor for that ... ie no test

and in some cases people have no symptoms at all

https://www.healthline.com/health/coronavirus-symptoms

OMG, I can't believe this belief exists after all the data out there and the info some of been posting on this board. This is not like the common cold in ANY way.

I'll say it again- It is MUCH different than the common cold!

It is non-symptomatic for up to 14 days, during which time, you spread it to 3 times the amount of people than the common flu, let alone its much more contagious than a cold.

And you just proved my point from the other thread about testing and coronavirus when you said not everyone goes to the doctor when they have the cold. Or flu for that matter.

actually the averge no symptomatic time is 4 days

Would you agree that this is much more contagious, deadly, and serious than the common cold or flu? For any age and demographic?

The 60 years of age demarcation is a bit flawed for all people who are 60 do not have the same quality of health even if they are not part of a high risk sub set.

I said it is non-symptomatic for UP to 14 days, with the average time being 5 days, according to WHO and the CDC.

The common flu will show symptoms up to 4 days, with the average time showing up in 1-2 days after contraction.

In either case, it is at least 3 times longer incubation. My point is still accurate.

I never said that it wasn't for all i am doing is to rely on the facts and let the dust settle from there. I have to rely on facts for I personally do not want to exist in a world where they do not possess any value. I am not making generalizations which fails to address the reality of the situation. On a side note what I want, do not want, like, do not like changes nothing of consequence and I wish others would join me in this. Answers and solutions either emanate from a foundation built on reality or a foundation built on non reality. I really don't mean to preach, but sometimes it is so necessary.

I'm not calling for that, I'm calling for a ban on large groups of people from all over the country congregating under one roof because that would be a perfect way to accelerate the spread of this.

But you hear that number constantly as if it is the arbiter of those who are at risk versus not at risk and it's not so. That's all.

It's the arbiter of those at risk who have no other underlying issues. Age over 60 is a risk factor the same as being a smoker or being obese is a risk factor.
