With 32,000 new cases in a week with nearly 5,000 new hospitalizations, I guess he had no choice... I am still surprised he did this though. I didn't see closing again as a real possibility.

Of course, according to Trump logic, if they didn't do any testing then nobody in Texas would have it. The numbers would look so great, so beautiful, so perfect, if only people weren't tested.

If we didn't track poverty, nobody would poor.... If we didn't track unemployment numbers, everyone would be employed... My wife was totally not pregnant at all until she took that damn test... Then bam, she was pregnant.

Supposedly, the increase in cases are driven by younger people. I wonder what the chances are that most young people are conservatives. Not likely. Oh well.
 
I think what happened was trumps' aids tried to explain to him the concept that if we increase testing into an unknown pool then the apparent increase in cases really isn't an increase per capita. same thing people try to hide behind here and it's a logical argument. problem is trump doesn't get the logic and he can't sell the argument. he flubs it up every time he tries to say it. in his little mind this is a causation thing and it's not. it's just numbers. so in his mind this is a foolproof answer and he doesn't get how others are all up in arms over it.

problem is that logic only helps if the actual number isn't really going up. I prefer to use hospitalization numbers but of course any number used consistently will give you the curve. but that assumes a steady field or pool.
 
I did my weekly grocery shopping this morning. Significantly more masks out and about today compared to last week.

We'll see.

I know you were trying to be sarcastic, but for the most part, these numbers haven't been given near as much press. If they followed up every "increase in COVID cases" with the other side (worsening economy, mental health crisis, etc), this situation wouldn't looks so black and white.

Granted, most people with any amount of common sense are already aware of this regardless.

I saw some hilarious logic related to this on Facebook the other day.... from people I know. You can guess in a minute where their political affiliation lies.

The basic premise was...... I don't know anyone who has Covid-19, nobody I know knows anyone who has Covid-19, therefore, I don't think people really have Covid-19.

That's like saying.... I don't know anyone who has been murdered, nobody I know knows anyone has been murdered, therefore, I don't think anyone really gets murdered.

I've probably met more people that have died or been hospitalized from COVID than every other poster in this thread combined.

hillcrest hospital in tulsa announced their ICU is full and they are diverting patients.
