March Madness and Covid-19

I dont know their structure. when we fought the kaiser case against Integris the management for Baptist took charge over that for SW for discovery purposes and I dont know if some corp owns both. I just want to find out where the Houston mayor gets his numbers.

Oklahoma state fair is cancelled.

I don't know their structure. TMC has so many different hospitals that it's basically a medical wonder of the world. I know there is some level of cooperation between Methodist, Baylor, UT, MD Anderson, etc, but I also believe they have a large component of individual autonomy. Honestly didn't know the TMC had a CEO until today -- always viewed it as more of a location thing.

TMC used to have a loose affiliation with Memorial Hermann. But yes, it is a conglomerate as you have mentioned. I used to do business with Ben Taub (Harris County Health), CHI-St Lukes, and Methodist.

If you've never seen it, TMC is one impressive Medical District. It is a city unto itself.

exactly. I'm not railing on you about that. Like I said a CEO of some hospital is a better written source than mine was. I saw a story in that UK Daily and listened to the Houston mayor last night. For all I know that CEO is actually in charge of TMC. Just trying to find where that mayor got his numbers.

Mayor Holt has a pretty good presentation on the numbers in OKC. Judge Mai tests positive and Elliott lies and says she's the only one at the courthouse to test positive. He's relying on the fact that the ADA's are technically in a different bldg. because many of them are positive. that makes 3 judges we're down.

Requesting to hear someone elses opinion is a pretty normal part of mature conversation.

No one said it isn't but asking people for solutions is a two way street.

And on a related side note, the number of deaths in the last 7 days is 367 less than the coinciding 7 day period from last week (data supplied by our good friends at Worldometer).

While all information is helpful, you then have to decide what to do with it.... Do we tell people age 55 and older to quarantine for 1-2 months? Do we tell people age 55 and older to not interact with any friends, families, co-workers, etc for 1-2 months? Do we tell ALL people age 55 and older that they can't work?

There are 40 million workers over the age of 55 in the labor force in the United States. That is a very large number in the workforce.

Your thoughts, WTsooner? You posted the stat of 93% in that age group. What would be your recommendation?

Young people clearly don't care about infecting them. So what is the solution?

The problem is that there are many people over 55 (like me) who are in far better shape than people half our age. I lead hikes up mountains and have found myself on more than one occasion carrying some 30 year old’s backpack for the last couple miles of a hike. With many examples like me, anything that puts an age restriction on major decisions related to Covid-19 will be met with resounding laughter.

I hate to get the government involved (mandatory mask wearing in public), but if people are too stupid to understand the seriousness of this problem, I don’t know what else can be done.

SARS-CoV-2 might cause type 1 diabetes. This is why I get frustrated when people only cite death as a bad outcome for Covid-19. We don't know what the long-term sequelae are for this disease because it's so new. That's why we should be trying to keep as many people as possible from contracting it. In other words, just because young people don't die after catching this doesn't mean they won't have long-term health consequences that can greatly impact their quality of life.

The governor of Texas, by executive order, has suspended all elective surgeries in Houston, San Antonio, Austin and Dallas. This is a huge financial hit for the hospitals but this was all so predictable. Texas reopened too soon and the governor tied the hands of mayors by not allowing them to enforce active measures. So what is happening is that they are having to be reactive, which is going to be much more costly in the long run.

"Well POPPYCOCK gentlemen ... Houston ICU's routinely run at 90%. It means nothing."

That's what the experts here said at least.

Apparently the authorities in Texas have a rather different take. We'll see who's right.

I said they likely have plans in place that they can implement to exceed 100%, which is exactly what they are doing. Also, this article is older than the ones we posted yesterday.

Exactly right. Of course the Lt. Governor of Texas says that senior citizens want to sacrifice themselves for the economy. Crazy talk.

such a load of crap. they wish to preserve this system that relies on exploitation and corruption. they'll never have it so good if things are actually balanced again to favor the individual.

I bet you $5,000 126,000 people haven't ended up just fine. They are six feet under.

Excellent response. People are suffering. People are dying. Some young people who've "recovered" have long term health consequences.
