March Madness and Covid-19

Give me a break. That would be like me listing all of the CRAZY stuff that some folks on the left believe and have been doing, and saying "when you find yourself on the same side as people like this, it's time to re-think your positions." That would be pretty silly, huh?

Just another comment from a member of the left that shows how intolerant they are of differing opinions. FREE THOUGHTS for all, unless you disagree with us. Right?

Be better than that big.

And as for it JUST being members of the right that don't want to wear masks, I point you in the direction of all of the 18-25 year olds in all of these beach towns, or liberal Arizona, or many other places, where they aren't. Or the riots, erm.....protestors. Those aren't proud members of the GOP in most cases. But sure, let us know about the 4 people you know. <insert eye roll here>

Yea, those people suck too. They aren't wearing masks because they are young and don't think it will impact them. It's a selfish decision. They aren't saying their freedom is under assault, they just don't care.

Both have the same outcome. One is stupid, and the other is selfish.

Well, I personally know 4 people who refuse to wear a mask. I can tell you what they have in common.

A.) They are all Trump people... Like, very MAGA.
B.) They think any disruption to their lives is an assault on their liberty
C.) They used phrases like "this is a free country", "this isn't the Soviet Union", "nobody is going to make me look like a muslim", etc.
D.) They think Covid-19 is media overhype

Two of these people are blood relatives that I speak to regularly, so I get to hear their views often. The other two are co-workers. One of them quit being a co-worker because she said the company couldn't force her to cover her face "like a muslim" because she is a free American.

That's what we are dealing with out there. When you find yourself on the same side as people like this, it's time to re-think your positions.

If this were an honest assessment then perhaps they could be playing you just as you yourself play people. See what I'm saying in a semi-cloaked manner?

I know people like that as well, and I won’t make excuses for them. However, I will never support the Marxism that you yourself have defended. I know many reasonable people on both sides but those are becoming increasingly rare. The middle is getting marginalized and both sides are getting farther right and left.

I will never make excuses or defend trump. I don’t defend any politicians on either side because the vast majority are criminals that only care about themselves, not the people. They protect their own wealth and power. However, I support conservative values and that mostly aligns with the right. I don’t support racism, fascism, Marxism, socialism, or any -ism. There are many problems that reasonable people can agree on, but there are few reasonable people in politics. Each side only wants to win and the American people are the ones that pay the for it.

You're condemning a whole political party based on 4 people? Are you completely unaware of the degenerates involved with the democratic party? I can name a lot more than 4.

First, where did I say anything about political party? Trump has a cult-following that is separate from mainstream GOP. I am referring to the them. I didn't say anything about the Republican Party.

Next, if you are pretending like there aren't millions of people like the ones I described, you are delusional.

You are correct. While I agree with bigabd on the wearing of masks in public, I respect all rational opinions (and 98% of them are rational). I probably have more conservative friends than liberal ones and can have positive discussions with all of them without losing friendships. Fortunately for me, my conservative friends have no more use for assaulting store / restaurant employees for doing their job than I do. Some will wear masks in public, and others won't. The ones who won't simply stay away from places which require them.

My angst isn't toward differing opinions; it's because some have become completely unraveled so easily (hence my "mentally weak" comment earlier) with these ridiculous assaults.

I was with you all the way until your last sentence. I explained that in my reply to WTSooner. I guess that is the protocol for someone straight down the middle politically...people can never figure out which side I'm on :-).

Finally, Texas governor Abbott issues a mandatory face mask order for all counties with 20 or more Covid-19 cases. That's better than no order but why not just issue a statewide order? The virus doesn't care what county you live in. Weird.

There are millions of idiots in the Republican party. Same for Democrats.

then stop dividing sh!t into isms all the damn time. people can be in support of social programs without it being socialism. you benefit from it daily so take off the blinders. people can have similar ideas to marx and it not be marxism.

Abbott made a huge fan of Dr. Marc Boom at Houston Methodist (??) I think. He said on Memorial day they had 140 beds occupied and right now it's 560 I believe. He said they had the gear to convert up 2,400 beds for covid-19 patients which is excellent to hear. We didnt have that in April so thats a good step. we're learning but it's a hard curve.

57,000+ cases in the United States today, a new global record.

Over 10,000 in Florida. Miami-Dade county is instituting a curfew to try to slow down the virus.

Multiply the deaths by 5 and you would also have a new record.

I’m sure I don’t have to explain to you that deaths lag behind new cases by weeks.

And again, death isn’t the only possible bad outcome from this disease.

And I'm sure I don't have to explain to you that we are testing more, these positive tests are more predominantly people that can handle the virus better than previously, that our treatments have improved, we have better plans in place to handle surges, this increases was expected, and that the overwhelming majority of people make complete recoveries.

1. We really aren’t testing significantly more people, it’s pretty much plateaued the last few weeks and I saw a 19% positivity rate (I think in Texas but I’m too lazy to go double check) so that means we still aren’t testing enough in certain places.

2. All the other things you said are true AND we will see a spike in deaths based on this surge in new cases.

3. We don’t know what the long-term sequelae are.

I sure am glad we have a local lab technician here to lecture us all on the Apocalypse. I feel all warm and fuzzy.

1. I'm not a "lab technician"

2. I give facts as I see them.

3. Feel free to not read any of my posts, it won't hurt my feelings.

Here's an excellent resource with elegant, easy to read graphs.

https://covidusa.net/

Check out the positivity rate, it's sitting at 8.3% which is the highest it has been since May.
