March Madness and Covid-19

Yea.... upper middle class white guys with blonde hair and blue eyes like me just can't catch a break.

That was a petty response, but expected. Not everyone is you. Get it? Recently there were people expressing anti semetic views and they were largely ignored, as they always are, but that's okay with you. Got it. FBI hate crime data shows black people are twice as likely to commit a hate crime as whitey over the past 3 years relative to ethnic population bases, but that's okay with you. The last thing this world needs is more self absorbed jerks.

Yep. But Trump handled things SO poorly. lol

steve is the king of finding the version of a stat that fits his narrative, and running it into the ground.

You mean like deaths per million? Those countries were all dealing with the outbreak in the early days, they had their peak and now they have managed it, got it under control and are opening up.

What is happening now?

We also had an outbreak in the early days, but we didn't get control of the virus like those countries, it spread to other regions in the country, our outbreak is still out of control. Look at the graphs. Why were those countries able to get the community incidence down to a manageable level and we STILL have an accelerating pandemic? We can't even keep the virus from infecting baseball teams who have unlimited resources. Why? Because we haven't controlled the virus in the community.

It is weird to me how it spreads quickly in some settings and not others

Maybe we should look at 5G again:ez-laugh:

It's not a mystery. Those players shared the same indoor space. Anyone who shares indoor space with a group of other people for any length of time is at risk of catching and/or transmitting the virus.

Bad part is the loudest people are on the 2 extremes:
1) if you leave your house you will either die or kill someone.
2) this is a hoax, the world did this to hurt Trump, all deaths are from something else.

There are very few medium news reporters and even fewer stations that get airtime & their voice heard. That’s why I prefer to read different outlets than to watch the news.

Good post BC....agree 100%

I'm tired of the "early days" argument.

Italy had started seeing cases 3 weeks before us. I can see that making a difference. But most of the rest of Europe was about a one week difference between them seeing cases rise and the US seeing cases rise.

https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/daily-covid-deaths-per-million-7-day-average

1-2 weeks is not enough time for the US to learn anything from Europe IMO. It hit so fast.

Where they not wearing masks? Were they not sanitizing properly?

Why aren't all MLB teams seeing the same thing?

Why has OU been effective in limiting cases?

Why are there countless stories of spouses not passing in on to each other?

That is what is odd about it. For being so contagious, tehre are a lot of stories where it doesn't spread. I think there is somethign to the idea that some people have built up immunity already.

Also, some EU countries are seeing a second spike in cases as well.

As I have said many times, you either draw it out and have lower peaks, or you have higher peaks over a shorter time. Totals deaths will be what is interesting to look at when this is all contained

I said in my message that we had an outbreak in the early days as well, but we were not able to eradicate the virus in the community and those countries were. We are STILL dealing with an accelerating pandemic and those countries are not. Of course some of those countries will have higher deaths per capita overall, because the vast majority of their cases were in the early stages of the pandemic when clinical treatment was not as good as it is now and hospitals were overwhelmed there, but what is happening at this late stage? They're all opening back up safely, and we are floundering.

Death is not the only possible bad outcome from this, as I've stated many many times in this thread.

I don't think that is true. I think most of those people want radical changes to the way police operate, to the point where it gives "criminals" more leeway, and makes it harder on the officers to do their job while staying safe.

All because there are about 15-20 shootings of unarmed black people a year in this country, only of which maybe half are even up for debate as bad shoots.

Yes there definitely needs to be police reform & I’ve touched on all those subjects already. But if the police who did kill unarmed people were held as accountable as they should be then there wouldn’t be near the outrage.

Anyway, I've got a lot of work to do today, just stopped by and saw that WT mentioned me AGAIN, for no reason, so had to respond. Enjoy your Monday.

and yet we have still done better than a lot of these countries you praise.

So early deaths are worth less than later deaths? B/c that is basically what you are saying.

The MLB is starting to get hit and are canceling games.

yeah yeah we know. when it is pointed out that the US isn't doing terrible in deaths per capita, the goal posts are moved to long term. And guess what, the US has more confirmed cases because we test more per capita than almost everyone.

Are long term effects only goign to happen in the US? Or only in those that received a positive test?

And the key word is possible as empirical data does not convince otherwise. Many things are possible or where people convince themselves it is possible. People in Salem,Mass. for one reason or another thought it was possible to be a witch. You think they might have been in error. Toasted marshmallow event.....canceled!
