March Madness and Covid-19

The Masters was postponed, that one really surprises me

Me too!! I mean it’s a effin outdoor sport, with plenty of space/distance between the competitors!! No sharing of balls or equipment!

I’m all for being cautious, but enough is enough! Don’t allow fans to attend.

Cancelling life all together is not the answer. Be careful...be smart.

Agreed. Plus it's 4 weeks away. Re-evaluate things in 2 weeks. And in 3 weeks. I don't can't postponing it this early.

After thinking about it, I think the issue is the travel for the players, coming in from all points on the globe.

Trump is declaring a national state of emergency today at 2:00 pm central time. Gives the feds more leeway in dispersing funds to state and local authorities.

The pendulum of reaction often doesn't have a middle ground, just two opposing sides.

There’s a lot of bad news out there. But I think we can all agree there’s karma in that KU will not get a chance to win anything this year and hopefully they’ll be on probation this time next year

The Masters has been postponed.

-Sorry, already posted.

As someone that has run the race, notice the Boston Marathon postponed although it is still 5 weeks out. That is another major cancelation as it brings in about $200MM.

At this point, I would be shocked if there is any sporting event or gathering in the next 3-4 weeks that is not postponed or canceled.

After Rory's comments yesterday, my guess is there was a pushback from the players about holding events.

Ah, that makes sense. But similar to the NCAA, the members are the ones who push the policy sometimes.

I'm going to withhold my comments on this, as I try not to argue with teenagers over the internet.

Well you claim to be a doctor but you're contradicting the experts, basically saying hurting the economy is worse than trying to curtail the spread of this disease. I am looking at Italy and saying you are wrong. You can come tell the group why you're right and they are all wrong if you want. You don't seem to want to do that though. I don't really care, it's just weird to me.

New measures:

Google will have a website up in a few days with the locations of test centers in your community.

Walmart, Target, CVS, and Walgreens stores/parking lots will be converted into testing centers

LabCorp and Quest (I think) will get results back in 24-48 hours.

The testing centers will be drive-up.

Federal health agencies have the ability to use any space necessary if they need it in local communities and hospitals for testing and treatment.

The retail CEO's did not have a response for supply chain issues related to soap, paper products, and hand sanitizer.

They also discussed public bailouts for the Cruise and Airline industries.

There was more, but this is off the top of my head.

Looks like progress to me, but one man's progress is another man's digress!

Absolutely progress. The markets reacted really well to it as well. These steps are both impressive and necessary. Having all the retail CEO's up there really helped with the message as well.

They sound like good ideas but:

Walmart, Target, CVS, and Walgreens stores/parking lots will be converted into testing centers

How will that affect customers of those stores? I guess if there are a lot of locations it wouldn't mean a lot of congestion in one area.

This is progress, they actually have a plan now, but the devil is in the details, hopefully they can pull it off.
