March Madness and Covid-19

He is going to be tested, but in the meantime he's STILL out there acting irresponsibly. Leadership would be setting a good example, not saying "do what I say, not what I do." People take their cues from leaders, and the takeaway is that he's not really taking it seriously, because he's not going through the same steps he's suggesting for everyone else.

I applaud Ted Cruz, he's been in quarantine ever since coming across a Covid-19 positive person at CPAC.

You seem overly concerned with what Trump is doing.
You should be concerned with yourself and your family and what YOU can do to protect yourself.

You think I’m not? I’m on the front lines, trying to get people tested for this.

This is not a static situation and there will be more changes in our lives regardless of the precautions we already take. Do you think if I told people I was heating the newspaper and the mail that some might not indoctrinate themselves with the same precautions. Some are more ahead of the curve than others I suppose.

Same goes for using the back of my knuckle at point of sale terminals wherever they exist. I've been doing this for years. Why do people not do the same thing you could ask. When I open a door to the car, entry door or touch things with my finger I know I am not spreading the germs from the terminals. No one advised me to do so for I just applied some of my own common sense.
Yep, and some of those precautions I would like to see all the time, and after this outbreak, we probably will. Secret service does everything to check people before entering the White House, why not check the temperature? It just makes sense.

I would say your treatment of the mail or newspaper is probably over the top. I have been one that is vocal on how serious this virus is, particularly the spread, but it isn't anthrax. Yet your precautions do not harm anything and if you are willing to take part in the inconvenience, it could possibly help.

I agree with you about how people act in public. I have not been one to use knuckles but it is a good idea. Even before this virus and even still, it amuses me to see people wipe down their shopping cart, but pick up a shopping basket without thinking. They avoid contact with people, but lay down their phone anywhere and put it up to their face.

You are already implementing some wise precautions and I can see us all changing how we interact even after this virus.

I agree with this

As far as the mail and paper are concerned my worry is if the deliverer is contaminated then these items could easily be contaminated. This is my thinking as I do not want to take that risk because it is outside of my scope as to who has the virus and who does not.. Plus I mentioned that I am presently tending to my grandmother, who is rather elderly, and I am trying my best not to infect her. And firing up the oven for 5 minutes is really nothing (it helps warm up the kitchen a bit in the process).

It's great that you're caring for your grandmother, that is a very tough job. I hope she gets through all this unscathed, it sounds like you're taking very prudent precautions. If I had an elderly relative at home I would probably just take a leave of absence from work, because there's no way that I'm not going to eventually come in contact with the virus.

In fact, we sent off a sample to OSDH to be tested today.

Thank you

A seemingly sincere “Thank you” may be a good place to end what has to be the longest-running thread in OUHoops history. CONGRATULATIONS! You set the record.

Does that mean I’m going to lock this thread? Not a chance. If I wasn’t retired I would have put a stop to this nonsense sometime ago. Boulder asked everyone to leave politics out of the discussion, but he has been ignored by you and several other posters. It’s his call. But who could blame him if he locks this thread?

Don’t get me wrong, the Covid-19 Virus is a serious matter. It’s obvious you know a great deal about this virus and other infectious diseases. It’s also clear you’re not the only one, yet you continue to challenge anyone and everyone who doesn’t agree with you. Good grief, man, even the world’s medical and scientific experts (not saying you’re not one) can’t agree on the best course of action to combat this virus. Is it any wonder the posters on this board don’t see eye to eye?

Why don’t we all consider a self-imposed quarantine on this topic? Now that we’re on page #35, I find it hard to believe even you can come up with a way to repeat the same messages you have posted a dozen or more times in the past few days.

I can’t possibly be the only one who wants to see it end. How about it? If there are any new developments or warnings, by all means let all of us know. In the meantime, though, give Boulder the respect he deserves by honoring his request and by giving this topic a rest. Thanks in advance!

Fair enough, I will honor the moratorium and only post in this thread if there are updates, it has been fun discussing and debating with everyone, even those with different opinions.

I am basically retired and going to the market is really the only thing I do outside of the house for now so it makes things easier. My grandmother has curtailed the social gatherings she normally engages in so I am trying to reduce all possibilities of her getting sick/dying. And it is a hard task to care for her because one thing she clearly has is the ability to drive one nuts and I am not exaggerating one iota. I need more walls to talk to.

So, what does Boulder have on you? It must be something really juicy (oh yuk!!!!!!!)

My wife and I can relate, sheepdogs1! We’re grandparents and we’re blessed to be reasonably healthy, but our age and the upper respiratory problems we have been through in the past two years likely means we’re in the high risk category. I’m a good listener if you need my telephone number. :)

And, for the record, Boulder doesn’t have a thing on me. Guess I’m just a glutton for punishment or I wouldn’t still be here after helping my friend OUHoops launch this board eleven years ago last October.

Wow! I think I've been here off and on for most of that time, mostly on. I'm glad you guys started this website, there are many schools that don't have a dedicated basketball message board (as far as I can tell, because when we play important tournament games I try to find what their fans are saying, and a lot of times I can't find anything).

I knew you had been here since November, 2008, just a month after the board was launched. You can thank OUHoops for that, and Boulder for not allowing it to die. I’m the guy who wrote the rules. So, you may not want to thank me for anything, unless it’s being too stubborn to leave. ;)

No, we need rules or it starts to devolve, and I know I'm as guilty as anyone else at allowing that to happen.

You "food proteins" are all alike. You have no problems wreaking havoc on the digestive systems of the innocent. Shame on you!

Have we really been at this for 11 years??? Man time flys
