What would Oklahoma have done in the NCAA Tournament this year?
It’s a mystery that will go unsolved following the team’s 19-12 season and probable inclusion in the 68-team field.
Lon Kruger said he was “extremely proud” of this year’s squad, which only had three players with Big 12 experience entering the season. The Sooners tied for third in the conference.
“It seemed like all year we were grinding for consistency and a complete understanding of how difficult every game is. Individually we were up and down. As a team, we were up and down,” said Kruger, who completed his ninth season as coach. “To hang in there and get a third seed in Big 12 play was absolutely great. I couldn’t be more proud of what they did.”
The Sooners won three of their final four games, including two wins over Top 25 teams Texas Tech and West Virginia.
“They were clearly playing their best basketball in the last couple weeks of the season. It was very satisfying from that aspect,” Kruger said. “Obviously we would have liked to have had that experience of learning earlier on. But to finish strong like they did and compete for that third spot in the Big 12 Conference was very satisfying.”
OU only loses one player – senior Kristian Doolittle – meaning that important experience will return next season.
