Don't like to overpost people's tweets but this one made me smile:

As hard as it is not to play this year, I truly believe my choice of becoming a #Sooner is of of the best I have made in my life ...

There is something special about our program #soonernation...

Follow Amath on twitter

got to love to hear that! i mean the guy is sitting out and is pumped. love it. kruger needs to talk to our football team.

Good to know that Amath is pleased with his decision to come to OU! I have a feeling that every player on this team would express similar thoughts. They all seem to be happy. Here we are one-fourth of the way through the season and there has not been a single negative, at least none that I'm aware of. How great is that?

Newell? :)

The fact that you might have over-looked that speaks volumes to how well this team plays. I also still think, and this is supposition, that Newell might not have been great for team chemistry and his leaving might have improved things. I don't have any hard evidence for that, just a feeling. (To head off the more emotional, I'm not suggesting that he was a "cancer", just that he was not as "in" as the rest of the team, or as "in" as this tweet shows.)

I've been on the football board a lot and any time I see a thread that includes a player's tweet I cringe. Nice to see an OU athlete tweeting things like this for a change.

Beats the heck out of reading TMG's junk.

Guess I didn't see Newell's decision to transfer as a negative, at least in the usual sense that it came as a result of off-the-court legal or character issues, problems with grades or attending class, disagreements with coaches and teammates that created dissension within the ranks, etc . The kind of stuff we heard so much about the previous two seasons, and some of it known only to those of us who had a link to inside information.

I don't rule out the possibility that Newell's departure was due, in part, to a lack of playing time or a desire to be a starter. To be honest, I was told that was one of the main reasons he left. But since it was information that couldn't be confirmed, it was, and will continue to be, nothing more than a rumor.

On the whole, though, this year's team has been as trouble/problem free as any team we've had in years. I think this group of kids actually likes each other, which may explain why Coach Kruger was able to mold them into a cohesive unit so quickly. Just sayin'...

I agree. I really didn't see Newell's departure as a negative either, at least not after some thought. Retrospection has helped, as it seems this team has continued to get better with or without him.
As we have seen over the last few years, being really skilled at basketball and having great athleticism, are only two parts of the puzzle. While those parts are necessary, teamwork/chemistry and hard work are also vital. It seems to me, so far, this team has those traits.

I still see his departure as a negative. I claim no inside knowledge of chemistry or attitude, so perhaps in that sense, he was not a loss -- I don't know. But on the court during games, I was very much enjoying watch him play and I think the team, as good as they've played since he left, could use him.

If he was a problem in other ways, then perhaps it's just as well he's gone, but unless and until that's confirmed, I'll regret his departure.

I agree. OU is very thin in the backcourt now. I suppose OU can play big with Neal, Clark and a pg but having Newell was a plus.

Perhaps he played pickup ball with Hield and Hornbeak and realized they were better than him. With Pledger already starting maybe he concluded he would never start at OU. Since that is a positive spin for OU, I am going to go with it.
