MBB TPT2 TRANSFER PORTAL THREAD 2

Honest question: do you feel the need to answer every question on a message board?

And personally, fwiw, I think both portal players we landed will be upgrades. Obviously it will hinge on who else we bring in and how well the team plays together. Last years team had a lot of holes.

Wichita is less annoying in this exchange than you are being imo

Honest question: do you just look for every possible way to interpret my comments on every subject in a way that makes you angry?

Second honest question: in real life, are you so fragile that if a person doesn’t agree with every statement you make, you reflexively go to ad hominem attacks and accuse them of being negative? It is a message board. It’s ok to disagree. It’s fine if you want to be optimistic and predict that everyone we sign will be an upgrade. It’s also fine if I prefer to wait to see how they adjust, especially after watching several guys not live up to expectations the past two years.

The poster asked a specific question about whether they will be an upgrade. So I guess we should either (a) ignore the question, or (b) just pretend we know the answer and that it is an unequivocal yes? Being honest and saying that it is hard to know isn’t Debbie downer. It is living in reality.

Bam not working out had more to do with Bam than anything else. PM isn't blameless but he didn't buy into playing defense like he should have....and it cost him quite a bit of PT. It is what it is.

my question as well...I don't have time to follow all the portal in's and outs..

Here are my rankings of outgoing and incoming:

1. McCollum (edge here due to being younger than Grant)
2. Sherfield (he will be missed)
3. Tanner (good college big man imo)
4. Hugley (plenty of skill but too volatile to place ahead of Tanner)
5. Hill (best defender but more of a ‘tweener in big 12)

6. Bam (best athlete of the bunch)
7. Bijan (he has shown flashes)
8. Jacob (will be a pretty good mid major pf imo)
9. Benny (here due to potential)
10. CJ (could be higher but doesn’t work hard enough imo)

Does McCollum play defense? Loved Sherfield on offense but he was pretty bad on the other end. If you don’t have a legit rim protector the other 4 better be able to lock up.

Pleas take this pi$$ing contest to the portal moser thread.

NOT SO FAST!! Small could be a Sooner. Still a chance.

Aren't you the same weirdo that whined and cried about Bijan? Then talked about how he was one of the most talented players on OU?

In the end, Bijan doesn't care about you so you should let him go.

I'm happy we have Hugley coming in, I am, but here are some stats comparing his numbers during his good year to T. Groves last year:

Minutes:
T. Groves - 25
Hugley - 30

Shooting Percentage:
T. Groves - 51%
Hugley - 48%

FT Shooting Percentage:
T. Groves - 72%
Hugley - 71%

Rebounds per Game:
T. Groves - 7.2
Hugley - 7.9

Turnovers per Game:
T. Groves - 1.7
Hugley - 2.9

Points per Game:
T. Groves - 10 (on 7 shots per game)
Hugley - 15 (on 10 shots per game)

Again, I like Hugley, I think his toughness will help the team, but his numbers weren't anything spectacular when you dig in. Good player. Glad he is headed to Norman. Not a guaranteed upgrade overall.

I think this is a good comparison, I would like to add one stat that you left out. FTRate.

Hugley gets to the line. He gets fouled. He shoots FTs.

Hugley was 157-221 in his good year on 70%
Tanner was 63-87 in his senior year on 72%

To me, that is a huge difference in a guy who is going to back to the basket, go up strong, and get to the line. We need that. Now just to see if his style works with our athletic guards and sub-optimal outside shooting/spacing currently.

Bro... what the hell??? Please take your ish somewhere else. Guess I need to block you on this site as well.

So far we have replaced a 16ppg scorer at the Big 12 level with a 16ppg scorer for a 17-15 Sienna team... and we added 8 points and 3 rebounds per game post from Pitt in place of a 10 point and 7 rebound guy (Groves) at OU.

These are nice players to have on your team, still concerned we aren't getting any better than last year... unless of course Oweh and Uzan turn into studs which is possible. But McCollum and Hugley are not upgrades over Sherfield and Groves.

Agree or disagree?

I'm not as big on Hugley as most, but calling him an 8/3 guys is very misleading.

Based on film, McCollum looks like a better overall playmaker than Sherfield and I pay attention to Hugley’s stats two years ago when he was healthy in the ACC. Played less than 10 games last year…

McCollum is an upgrade over Grant, and Hugely will be a vastly better low post player than Tanner. Will we be better? Not yet. Still need another shooter and a stretch 4 to really be good. Throw in another athletic big man on top of that and I would be feeling really good.

It's just impossible to predict at this point. A lot of people here thought Bam, Schroder and Northweather were going to be world-beaters at this time last year.

You don't know this.

Great posts.

I think Hugley is a bigger, physical presence than Tanner. Doesn't have the outside shot, but definitely can get to the line and is big/physical.

McCollum is more aggressive at creating his own shot than Grant. May be a push there, but I see Hugley as a slight improvement. (this is opinion, not fact btw)

The PF/4 is where OU will need to make a splash. I think that will be the difference maker, IMO on going to the dance or sitting it out another year.

But we are already more athletic than last year across the board.

I thought Bam was going to be more of a difference maker...the other 2, not at all. Bam was definitely a letdown to most on here.
