MBB TPT2 TRANSFER PORTAL THREAD 2

I don't entirely understand bringing in Soares, but even less do I understand Jalen Hill supporters that criticize him for not shooting well. I thought Hill was great because he could guard 1-4? Pot...kettle.

I agree with you. I liked Hill and never understand supposedly OU fans criticism of players especially a player who is not committed. Not productive or cool. Keep things positive or not at all.

It's not about criticiism--it's about assessing what a portal player would bring to the team. I've seen no posts that were disrespectful to Soares. If we can't examine the talents and abilities of a potential transfer, what can we discuss this time of year? You would have us sing the praises of every portal player OU reaches out to or say nothing at all?

Sky who do you want out of the portal? Names not generalizations

I don't spent time looking at the portal; that would be huge a time suck (I'm not knocking those who do--it's just not for me). After all, even if I compiled a top 10 list, what impact would that have on who Coach Moser and his staff pursue? None at all (and rightfully so).

When word comes that a player is seriously considering transferring to OU, I sometimes (not always) look into their tenure at their previous school to see whether (in my opinion) they're a good fit for OU and I sometimes (not always) share those opinions here, knowing full well that doing so will also not (and rightfully so) have an impact on who Coach Moser pursues/signs. I'm also prepared for other posters to disagree with me. I have never presented myself as any sort of recruiting/portal guru--quite the opposite. But I can do a little research when we seem to have zeroed in on someone, just like anyone else on the board.

If Soames signs with OU, I'll post a welcome message here and immediately begin pulling for him to succeed. But us signing him won't instantly change my assessment of what he brings to the team--he'll have to do that with his play on the court (and I'll be sincerely rooting for him to do just that).

Did you miss this one or do you not see this as disrespectful to Soares?

I guess I did miss it, but the truth is, based on his stats, Soares doesn't shoot very well. I'll be pulling for that to change if he signs with OU.

UConn the national champion had everyone of their guys but 2 who avg double figures shoot below 50% from the floor.

Not everyone has to shoot 40% from 3

I'll make this comparison....if he can be similar to Andre Roberson at CU he's a win. If he's a +defender alone is an upgrade.

If he’s Andre Roberson from CU he’ll be 1st team all big12 & an all American.

He was a JUCO all American before Oregon and shot 34% from 3.

Positing a fact is disrespectful? Or perhaps you think shooting 25 percent from three is acceptable for a guard? Also, it’s funny you cite that post and ignore the several in which people absolutely trash Jalen Hill, who was a very good Sooner for four years.

Yeah, posting a fact is not disrespectful. I did the same on another Forum about Bronny James and they thought that was "hating." People are strange.

I'm guessing it's a matter of semantics: "Can't shoot a lick" and "awful shooter" might come off as overly harsh to some.

"He is a 2/3 that has a below average shooting percentage."

Your post was a rile up post, yes.

Also "facts" usually include something other than opinion statements. Agree with skyvue though, the semantics of it all. Better, less antagonizing word choice would have helped here.

He did shoot a better and reasonable FG% the year prior, his 3pt% does need work. Will be interesting to see how they do when teams clog the lane vs. OU and we have all those open opportunities again. He has demonstrated the ability to shoot it well, albeit against lesser competition

You seem to have trouble discerning the difference between facts and opinions. I think most would agree that your comments were opinion and not facts. I don't post often but I am a big fan of Jalen Hill and never posted anything trashing him or any other of our players. I know some thought he was replaceable but I don't remember anyone trashing him. On the contrary everyone seemed to like Jalen as a person, but many thought we just needed more from him in area of 3 point shooting or we needed an upgrade at the 4 position to achieve our goals. Apparently you weren't raised to temper your comments. Instead of saying "can’t shoot a lick" and "is an awful shooter" you could moderate your comments to just say I strongly feel his shooting is not up to the level that we need for our team to achieve it's goal of winning enough games to qualify for (or advance far enough) in the big dance. That gets your point across without leading people to refer to your post as being disrespectable of a person who we were trying to recruit.

One poster repeatedly bashed Hill in just about every one of his posts about Soares. If you haven’t read those, I suggest you take a look. And my comment about Soares is a fact. He shoots FAR below average from outside, especially for a guard. What is the need to sugarcoat things by simply saying he is a “below average shooter” when the reality is that he is far worse than that? Statistics are verifiable facts.
