MBB TPT2 TRANSFER PORTAL THREAD 2

You seem to have trouble discerning the difference between facts and opinions. I think most would agree that your comments were opinion and not facts. I don't post often but I am a big fan of Jalen Hill and never posted anything trashing him or any other of our players. I know some thought he was replaceable but I don't remember anyone trashing him. On the contrary everyone seemed to like Jalen as a person, but many thought we just needed more from him in area of 3 point shooting or we needed an upgrade at the 4 position to achieve our goals. Apparently you weren't raised to temper your comments. Instead of saying "can’t shoot a lick" and "is an awful shooter" you could moderate your comments to just say I strongly feel his shooting is not up to the level that we need for our team to achieve it's goal of winning enough games to qualify for (or advance far enough) in the big dance. That gets your point across without leading people to refer to your post as being disrespectable of a person who we were trying to recruit.

I used some hyperbole to describe the inadequacies of Hill’s game. Several posts could be interpreted as “bashing”, and I am ok with that. I don’t take message boards as seriously as some.

I have not and will never say anything negative about him as a person or leader. I have not and will never say anything negative about his character. He worked very hard as a Sooner, and I commend him for that. I also said he would be a loss.

Having said that, I will continue to believe that his game is not what is needed to be successful at the pf position in a power 5 conference. I don’t believe he is all that hard to replace if we are somewhat competitive in the portal. Just my opinion and I am ok if others disagree. I won’t shy away from bringing stats and other empirical data to the table to support my opinion.

Lawrence has good size, great athlete, and efficient offensive player. Solid defender.

McCollum
Uzan
Oweh
Cooper
Lawrence
Soares

That's a good guard group.

Cole
Hugley
Godwin
Keita
Northweather

That is not a good frontcourt.

Need two more big bodies who can play.

I'm pretty sure we'll get a quality 4 as a starter. Would be happy with Lubin or Tre White. I can't imagine we have enough minutes left for two quality bigs, but would be very excited if we did. Collins + Lubin or White would be a dream.

As expected, Guerrier commits to Illinois. Bummer.

Looked like a stud. I still think we should take a flier on Clarence Daniels from UNH. Great stats in a small conference but you never know

What do you like about him?

I’d be lying if I said I was an expert on his game. Solid stats from a p5 program, though. He is from sunrise Christian so maybe we could pull it off (unlikely given McCollum).

just a very very solid guard

50% from the field 36% from 3

good size 6'4 200

would be a good combo guy ..

You can't have too many guys like that. Very good size and looks like a competent shooter. We simply can't afford to have more guys on the floor that can't shoot.

i just think if you are him you want to go somewhere that you have a guaranteed starting spot ..

and OU is not going to tell him that ..

i do think many here are undervaluing Oweh and Cooper ..

oweh was 44% from the field 25% from 3 and 65 from the line

i think it is very possible that all 3 of those go up 5%

and 49/30/70 is completely reasonable and pretty good for a starting 3 man ..

No way to know. The percentages could go up but also a sophomore slump is very possible. Obviously you want all your guys to be able to keep the defense honest but you better prepare for the possibility that they are what they are.

Next to our starting 1 and 2? Probably.

The problem is that we currently have zero shooting coming off the bench*, no 4 man at all and whatever 4 we get is likely not a great shooter, and a 5 that doesn't stretch the floor.

I'm not saying we can't find a way to make it work, but we're still a team that is light on shooting. I still think PM is trying to build a roster that he can hopefully coach into a top 10 defensive unit, and we'll win games that way.

Roster isn't set so I'll wait and see how things finish up. You have to have shooting in today's game, especially when you play in the Big 12 against quality defenses.

*We know Soares isn't a shooter. I'm not up to speed on Cooper's last 12 months, but the scouting report on him 9-10 months ago was that he wasn't a great shooter (yet), as he was coming off a 29% three point shooting "season." Cole isn't known as a shooter either.

Agree 100% and I don't know how you entice a guy to go from a starter role to a bench guy with limited NIL to back you up. Let's see if he really is "Portal Moser." He wasn't last year.

For what it’s worth Luke was a 38-39% 3pt shooter in high school. Saw him in practice a couple of times last year and was very impressive from the 3pt range. What that will transpire to this next year, who knows.

i largely agree with you ..

but i will also add that last year OU was 3rd in the big 12 in shooting 3's and would have been better off shooting less of them ..

Groves had a brutal shooting season from 3 and Hill was pretty bad as well ..

now for sure they were "respected" at the 3 line especially TG ..
