MBB TPT2 TRANSFER PORTAL THREAD 2

He’s not very good.

He looked like a young guy with all the physical tools who needed court time to improve. Lost his father at the beginning of the season and struggled to find any momentum after that.

He’ll be a solid contributor wherever he goes.

We have Hugley as the starter, and we hopefully have a quality starter at the 4 before long. Collins isn't going to be asked to be a superstar next year, so that limits the downside to essentially zero. Having a high energy guy with the athletic ability to protect the rim off the bench adds a really important dimension to this team. Could be the difference in winning or losing a couple games this year.

And other teams have gotten better too.

5 teams that will play in the Big 12 next year picked up a Portal commit from a player that 247 ranked higher than McCollum.

Also need to wait until we see a schedule to predict anything, since it will likely be unbalanced with the expanded Big 12, right? Some of that will depend on who we get and who we miss.

not really he was due to commit to cal last thursday ..

Lol well you’ve also said repeatedly he and his bro want to be a package deal and that we should have a good shot since we supposedly have the best combo of programs. Regardless, it’s sad we can’t beat an awful program for a guy we really could have used. Again, I can live with losing guys to top programs, but this one stings. He could have been a true difference maker.

That is a very disappointing loss. I thought the football team was going to get basketball an assist.

K Johnson has blown up and very seriously doubt we will get him.

Any smoke with Zubi? I have seen he is visiting Illinois.

Sigh. The Tyson bros would have been arugably the biggest deal to OU athletics in a long time. And no reason we shouldn't have gotten them both.

Couldn't even get him on campus, right?

Johnson appears to be a no.

Haven't heard anything on Collins, but if he were in the bag, I would think our recruiting would look different.

i said if he visits i would think OU will have a good shot ..

Keshad Johnson is visiting Kentucky on May 10th. That doesn't bode well.

I never counted on the football connection to help us. Maybe his bro will also go to Cal, but siblings, best friends, high school teammates, etc., usually decide based on their own best interest. But even without help from football, we should be able to beat Cal.

Our transfer class seems fine so far, but we only have landed one guy who has been a major contributor at a P5 school. We will have a hard time making much progress in our league if we have to keep relying on low and mid major players to come in and be impact guys.

We haven't brought in a true 4, have we? One of our positions of greatest need. And some assured us that we wouldn't miss Hill--a few even celebrated his departure, certain we were going to easily find someone better in the portal.

Maybe we still will, but our prospects for doing so appear to be growing dimmer by the day.

That’s a tough position in this league. You have to be super versatile.

Jalen Hill was one of my favorite players, I wish he had stayed at OU. But, he was not the “true 4” you have in mind. He was an undersized three, doing the best he could to defend and score against bigger, stronger fours, especially in the Big 12. As SC said, that’s a tough position in this league.

I wasn't suggesting he was a true 4, but he was an established player at the position with four years of experience in the country's toughest conference. Many posters assured us he'd be easily replaced and even improved upon. I'm just pointing out that's not necessarily the case.

I’m as concerned as everyone else at this point. So many good options to be a difference maker at the 4 position. Now we’re down to praying Aiden Sherrell declares for 2023 class or that Daimion Collins pans out.

Floored that we’ve got a wide open starting position in the big 12 and can’t get a solid commit.
