After watching Oklahoma’s win over Texas Tech Saturday, Westmoore junior guard Jessi Murcer made one of the biggest decisions of her basketball career.
OU women’s head coach Sherri Coale offered her a scholarship and a spot on her team as part of the 2018 recruiting class. Murcer didn’t hesitate.
“I committed on the spot,” Murcer said. “It was indescribable. The moment she said it, I knew that’s where I wanted to be, that’s where I wanted to spend my next four years. I started crying, then my mom started crying. It was just a dream come true.”
While Murcer gained some clarity on her future, that of the Westmoore girls is still to be determined. The Jaguars (8-4) have suffered two straight losses, to Class 4A No. 2 Harrah and Edmond Memorial, which came with a drop to ninth in the rankings. Last season, the Jaguars made the state tournament for the first time since 2003.
