New ARENA as part of entertainment District

Please stop with the hyperbole.

LNC may be old. It may be ugly. You may not like the seating arrangement. But it is NOT a crumbling mess. That is a silly comment.
I agree. It’s fine. Nothing more, nothing less. I had the opportunity to watch OU whip Vanderbilt in the second half last season and not once did the state of the LNC come into my mind.

Still moving forward
just waiting on the court ruling .

the county must move forward with the project to comply with requirements within the economic development agreement between the city, the Norman Tax Increment Finance Authority and the OU Foundation.

“When petitioners appealed the District Court’s ruling, they did not request injunctive relief from the Supreme Court barring enforcement of the District Court’s ruling, which, if granted, would have re-frozen the City’s ordinance,” Smuzynski wrote.

Smuzynski wrote that while public comment is an important part of county commissioners meetings, it is not typically included in the structure of authority meetings.

Cynthia Rogers, OU economics professor and petitioner to bring the project to a public vote, said city officials are better at listening to the public’s opinion regarding the project than the board of commissioners.

Last oral argument i saw in front of OSC, State Chamber of Oklahoma v. Cobbs, 2024 OK 13, the OSC went rogue and imo ignored precedence to allow the referendum to proceed to a vote.. you just never know what the judiciary might do

I still hope they aren't flying too close to the sun, doing all of this before the State Supreme Court ruling.

Love the thought of a new arena, but from that sketch, man, going to miss the parking and access to LNC. Just from dimensions, looks tight on parking, and one main
entrance/exit will be a b!tch.

Imagine complaining about a new mega arena and venue spot bc of parking... uber for $20

I'm for the arena project. But, one of the reasons people say the UNP area is good is because it is much more convenient to OKC. If it is going to take people a lot longer to get out of the arena, some or all of that benefit could be a wash. If the garage isn't designed well, it can be a mess. I parked in surface parking outside of Paycom, and a friend parked in a garage even closer to the arena. I got to Norman before he even was able to get out of the garage.

Now, the LNC can be difficult to get out of for a big game and if you're parked in the wrong area. So, not to say LNC is a walk in the park for everyone. But, I think it's a fair consideration. Hopefully they can design the parking situation to be as easy as possible for people to leave games.

parking is a big issue for a lot of folks

I despise LNC. It is an inigma. There is no reason that an area with that size of parking lot with that many exits should take as long as it does to get out of.

Haha, sure, pay $20 to park or Uber to watch the East Valley State game. Fans won't pay $10 now to go to a game but they will pay $20 to park or Uber because of the "experience". SMH
The oklahoma way... Make excuses of why we dont go to things. parking, orange seats, opponent even in top25, Old people tell me to sit down anyway, late start, early start etc...

ITS always something.

I don't know what I will do with my free time from not complaining about orange seats when we get a new arena

I've been a donor, Tip In Club member, and had season tickets since the 2002 season, and we make the drive from Tulsa to attend. That includes games against Kansas, Texas, OSU, Alabama, Tennessee, NIT against St Bonaventure, and Wednesday night December match-ups against Alcorn State and Coppin State. So yeah, I think I've "earned" the right to voice a concern or potential problem with parking if there is one.

And while I'm excited about a new arena, though I wouldn't call it a "mega-arena" at 8500 seats, I've been on record to say I don't have a problem with the LNC other than it's not competitive in our league to attract new recruits, portal talent, and coaches and overall shows a lack of commitment or vision for the future by keeping it as is.

But with that said, I don't think there is anything wrong with pointing out a potential flaw for an arena that is designed to attract more fans and improve the fan experience over the existing product. We have a loyal fanbase of about 3-4000 that will show up most nights regardless of where we play. The extensive survey that was sent out to us about the Rockcreek and UNP project was very detailed in asking our input on how it can be designed to make it more appealing.

And if we are trying to get MORE fans to the game, or even the casual fans to show up more consistently, the details on the fan experience matter. Like parking or arena access.

There are some major bottlenecks, such as the SE side of the arena. If you are purposeful about where you park, it's not that bad. Always prioritize being protected once you get out of the parking lot -- if you can get onto the street without waiting on cross traffic, it's pretty easy to get out fast.
