OU-Northeastern State Box Score

I have no problem with Newell taking 14 shots. As Billy Tubbs said he's the best player on the team at creating his own shot. All the shots I saw him take were open. He was just leaving them a little short early hitting front rim.

I can see Kruger rotating Pledger/Newell at the 2 with both of them having the green light and he will play the hot hand.

Calvin is quick as a cat and it appears he can get a shot off anytime he wants to. That is a good quality. He just needs to mak more of them. He has is practice.

I doubt that he was out there doing anything he wasn't coached to do. Heck, even Secretariat got beat his first out.

Same with Osby, he has been off two years. He will be fine too.

Given that we don't have a great offensive rebounding team, if I'm Kruger I pump the brakes a bit. Just because you can get your shot off at any time you want, doesn't make it a good shot.

I'm excited to see them play Sunday.

He was 1 of 8 at halftime. 8 is too many shots for him in any half. IMO, of course.

He was taking good shots in the first half... it was the second half where I thought he started forcing the issue instead of getting shots within the flow of the game.

Grooms has a single assist and a turnover compared to Blair's 5 assists, 2 turnovers and 3 steals but he's the better performer........ One of these guys was more productive than the other tonight, and it's not the one all you guys are talking up. I didn't see them play so tell me there's more than what I'm seeing in the box score.

I may not be clear about how they score assist but counted at least 2 definite assist. if you look at the highlights on soonersports.com you can make your own judgement.

Should've been assist:
1 - 25 second mark of the highlight, Sam swings a pass to Cam who shoots and makes a 3 point shot.

2 - 1:12 mark of the highlight, Sam on a break passes the ball to Blair for a layup + 1

Could've been assist:
3 - 13 second mark of the highlight, Sam pass to Fitz in the post, Fitz takes 2 dribbles and then makes a hook shot

4 - 55 second mark of the highlight, Sam passes to Cam, Cam takes 1 dribble and makes a jump shot

5 - 2:13 mark of the highlight, Sam pass to Osby at the top of the key, Osby takes 1 dribble and drives in for a layup.

the definition for assist i got from Wikipedia:

In basketball, an assist is attributed to a player who passes the ball to a teammate in a way that leads to a score by field goal, meaning that he or she was "assisting" in the basket. There is some judgment involved in deciding whether a passer should be credited with an assist. An assist can be scored for the passer even if the player who receives the pass makes a basket after dribbling the ball.

#3 and #5 are not assists, I could see #4.

Thanks for the info guys. Wish I could have seen them play, but your perspective really helps.
