Re: OU-Sutherland Box Score

Trae was good, really good! But the highlight for me is CJ's return to form, going 5 for 5 from three point range.

Lots of good stuff in this box score, and I'm pleased with the performance. I'm also anxious to see what this team can do against better competition.

Re: OU-Sutherland Box Score

Great to see about James. Hope he smooths out the streaky shooting. 5-5 is awesome. He also went 5-5 in a game in Orlando last year, though. Hope he's found his confidence!

Re: OU-Sutherland Box Score

Points are great obviously and they usually stand out the most but I love the fact that Odomes and Manek had 10 rebounds each. Manek had a double-double and has shown that he goes all out almost every play and will give teams fits when they don't stick with him until they have the ball secured going the other way. He needs some weight but you can't teach a motor like the one he seems to be showing.

I think Jamuni is on the fast track to starting.

And how about odomes' all around stat sheet? Almost a triple double.

Yep.

I think our friend Matthew told us it would get better.

Sutherland guys played hard! Good luck to them. What are they exactly? Some level of pro basketball? I don't always understand these international competition levels...

Great point about the rebounds. Muni had 7 rebs and 3 blocks in under 13 minutes of playing time.

Polla went 4 for 4 again, his second straight game of not missing a shot. So what if most of them are in close. Shows how dominant he can be when he gets the ball down low.

One more thing. Twelve players saw action (only two logged as much as 20 minutes) and they all scored.

CJ plays much better when he doesn't put so much pressure on himself.

I couldn't agree more, MsP! He was a 50% shooter from three last season through the first ten games. Woodard goes out with an injury, and the pressure CJ put on himself was more than he could handle. The harder he tried to make shots, the pressure he felt made it worse.

This is a different season. For one thing, he is in shape now. One only has to look at the pictures on Soonersports to see how he has transformed his body this summer. This team also has a lot more weapons on offense, not to mention a point guard who is an elite scorer and facilitator. Christian appears to be comfortable in his own skin now.

Has Coach Kruger or any of his staff commented on why the team's 2nd best returning player is playing pretty much the least number of minutes? If Doolittle is recovering from an injury, that would make sense...otherwise I'll admit to being a bit worried.

I'm definitely happy for CJ as well as the newcomers!

WF, I hope what we're seeing is an attempt to manage the minutes of more players (twelve in each game) than we're likely to see when the season gets underway.

I suppose it could be a minor injury, but since Kristian was highly active on defense and on the boards with 5 steals and 4 rebounds, that doesn't make much sense to me. My guess is our coaches are trying to play everyone on this trip, especially the newcomers, and it's not easy to share the minutes on a "fair and equitable" basis. We may know more if one or both of our last two games is against better competition.

Doolittle was the one who had me most excited last season. It just seems like his personality is one where he just doesn't look to score as much. He's shown he can...

Believe Shepherd playing in these up tempo games will help him a lot going into the regular season.

Assume it is the competition, but Odomes was fairly close to a triple double in 20 mins (8 points, 10 rebs, 7 ast)

Manek's double double

And what kind of stat line is 4 pts, 4 rebounds, 4 asts, and 5 steals in 10 mins

Maybe only a small take away, but it is nice to see them not playing down to the level of competition so far this year. With a big lead last year, feel like they would have let up in this game and the previous, hopefully it continues to carry over

Scoring by qtr
Oklahoma 32 28 29 40 129
Sutherland 14 11 15 11 51

Oh most definitely. You can even see it in his face. I felt so sorry for that kid last season. He wanted desperately to be the man and he pushed it too hard. His heart's in the right place, just need him to let it find him more and go with the flow.

Re: OU-Sutherland Box Score

hopefully his confidence continues to build .... he is a good kid

Slides, I see the point you made as a big take away. Last year's team lost a number of games by letting up when they had nice leads. For that reason if no other, I was pleased to see this team keep their foot on the accelerator and build on their lead in both games.

If they remember how much last year's losses hurt, maybe their moto this season will be "no mercy!."

I think Doolittles minutes are just a product of lineup experimentation. If you look at the minutes, players in groups have the exact same Playing time.

James/Lazenby/Shepherd: 19:09
Odomes/YoungMcGusty: 20:51
Manek/Lattin: 16:49
McNease/Freeman: 12:50
Doolittle/Polla: 10:23
