Wow, so our first Big 12 game is likely at KU. As tough as it gets. I doubt their students will be back on campus that early, so hopefully that works to our advantage.

We have the Diamond Head classic ending on Christmas Day and then a 10 day break to prepare for KU.

(I suppose KU could be our second game if they have us playing our first Big 12 game on Saturday January 2nd, but that seems unlikely)

Just once I'd like to get home Big Monday games than road games.

We have a home Big Monday game on Feb 8. The only two teams that got 2 home Big Monday games are the 11 time defending champions, and the team that won the conference tournament last year

I'm fully aware we have a home game. What about my post suggested I wasn't?

So you figure that when the ESPN bigwigs got together to put this schedule together, they said to themselves, "Y'know, ISU did win the Big 12 tourney last year, let's give them an extra home game on Big Monday"?

You may recall that we went to the Sweet 16 last season. I feel confident that, for a national audience (and that's what we're talking about, obviously), a Sweet 16 appearance carries more weight than winning a conference tourney. You could poll 100 hoops fans across the country who don't follow the Big 12, and I'm guessing that no more than five of them could tell you who won our conference tourney.

I'll never understand the cadre of posters on this board who consistently strive to spin ISU as a better program than OU.

Re-read your post, you said "just once I would like to get home big Monday games than road games." that implies you didn't think we got any home big Monday games. And we have had this discussion on Iowa State, they beat us twice last year, we beat them once. I'm not the one trying to spin anything. We did better in the NCAA tourney, but head to head they won 2 out of 3. They won the conference tournament, they eliminated us from the conference tournament.

ISU is definitely not a better (or as good) a men's hoops program as OU. However, their hoops fan base is superior by leaps and bounds. THAT is why ESPN likes them more than us for Big Monday home games. Other than the Phog, no Big XII arena comes close to fan atmosphere than the Hilton.

I left out a word. That's on me, obviously, but I think most folks would easily recognize my meaning.

It's funny. When we don't do well in the tourney, it almost doesn't matter to some here how we did during the season. And then when we do well in the tourney, it gets dismissed in favor of, what, a two-point conference tourney loss (because that's really we're talking about here, given that we split the regular-season series) that only happened because of a once-in-a career blowing of a wide-open layup.

But last season, after finishing 2nd in the conference, we had four games on Big Monday, one home and three away. Had I complained about that at this time last year, I'd have surely been told, by you or someone else, that it was because we did poorly in the Big Dance. I'm trying to keep up with how these programming decisions get made, but the "rules" keep changing (or at least the explanations offered for them here do).

My explanation is the same. It's the same one I used when Iowa St was raked higher than us in the pre season. My criteria has always put more emphasis on regular season than the big dance. Upsets happen in a one and done scenario. 16 conference games and the out come of playing a team 3 times weighs more to me. That's my personal opinion. If we finish 1st or 2nd in conference this year and win the conference tourney, and still get less home games on big Monday than anyone not named Kansas next year I will feel slighted. Right now I don't.

Not that I care that much, but I don't see how you can say the NCAA doesn't count because it is one and done, but then value the conference tournament.

Regardless, I think we don't get home games on Big Monday because of our home crowd. I highly doubt it is merit based. I'm sure they just think about what will look best on TV and fits their schedule.

Makes sense.

Just a guess. But I bet we see an increase in attendance. I think Folks see we have a shot to be real special.

We've got to get folks to give Away tickets to people that will go. Big corporations and donors.

I expect a bump in interest especially the 2nd half of the season. In November give OU students free tickets, hotdogs and pop. Better idea give students free beer at the early games.
