Good stats... The one thing here is Andrew Fitzgerald. Apparently he is the same exact player. 0 rebounds.

AND 4 fouls in limited minutes. Fitz needs to play smarter.

Also, Osby does not look like the best FT shooter from his stats for the first two games. Hopefully this is just jitters. He is likely to go to the line 4-5 times a game and we need every point we can get.

Andrew has improved his ability to make quick post moves in the low block, but I agree with you guys that he hasn't looked like much of a rebounder so far against two small teams.

Kruger said in the postgame that he is the best on the team at blocking out but that he often times just blocks out and lets his teammates rebound and that Kruger wants Fitz to block out but then still go up and get the rebound.

Crap, does Fitz know how to jump? lol Just kidding, but seriously we need him to rebound. Considering he's 6-8 it shouldn't be too hard smh

At least he's blocking out. I'm thinking that he may not be athletic enough to block out then change momentum quick enough to get the rebound. I'd like for him to do that, but maybe he just can't.

Is there any doubt after this game that we need Pledger in the starting lineup every game, and that he is likely our best scorer? Kid is finally showing signs of being the long distance bomber he was recruited to be.

Don't see how anyone could have argued against this.

any doubt now after THIS game? I mean, its Washburn. Its an exhibition. He played great and I am not going to take that away from him, but lets wait and see what happens before we declare him national player of the year.

I agree. He played great tonight. The issue with Pledger isn't that he can't play outstanding basketball, it is that in the past he has struggled to play great consistently. One good game is a nice sign, but I won't get excited until he plays this way consistently which I really hope he does.

No, but that didn't stop some posters from doing it anyway.

Pledger is still a work in progress. But, his shooting stroke is not one of the areas he needs to work on. If he continues to take good shots and let the game come to him, as he did earlier tonight, he'll show everyone here why he arrived at OU with the reputation as a pure shooter.

Ya I agree... 3pt specialist.

I find it a little disturbing that only two players had a positive assist to turnover ratio:

Blair 6:4
Osby 1:0

I will also note we committed 24 turnovers (Washburn had 20) and we were outscored in the paint (25-22). I admit I missed this game so all I got to see was highlights so I don't understand the full context of these numbers.

Haha, who's all over him? We just said for this team to be more successful Pledger has to start, play significant minutes, shoot and score the rock. That's not declaring him anything.

The bad news is that the TOs were essentially all committed by guys we know will play. Getting scored on in the paint this game concerns me less. They hd to get all their points in the paint because we shut down the perimeter. Their plan pretty quickly turned into slash and hope you get fouled. It looked to me like even those points in the paint were fairly low percentage scoring opportunities except on defensive break downs. The rebounding stat is a better indication of how we dominated the paint.

On a side note, Pledger's release on his shot looks quicker to me. Did anyone else notice it?

I think he is referring to some of the things people were saying in the game thread.

The turnovers are troubling, but not something that can't be corrected. On the surface, one might think that playing a lot of bodies contributed to the number of miscues, until you realize that the bulk of those mistakes were committed by returning players, not by the newbies on this team. Obviously, that has to improve going forward.

There were lots of positives to take from this game, though. Among them, team defense was MUCH improved over last year. We had a +20 rebouding edge, which is a lot better than our +6 in our last game, against a smaller team with less experience. It's important to note that OU won by 26 points against a team that took UNLV to the wire a few days ago. Washburn led at the half, were only down by 5 with 46 seconds left, and eventually lost by a score of 58-50.

Believe me, this was a much better performance against a decent exhibition team. The Ichabods were nothing like the teams we'll face later on, of course. But they were a worthy opponent that allowed our coaches to identify where we need to improve. Clearly, one of those areas is in the number of turnovers.

I did notice it. I thought everything Pledger did looked quicker. He appears to be a more streamlined version of the player we saw last year. Everyone on the team did, likely a product of working really hard in the off-season to get in better shape. We were told that's what they were doing, now we can see it with our own eyes.

I also noticed that our intensity on defense did not take a vacation from start to finish. There was a brief lapse early in the second half, but it was more a combination of the players we had on the floor and a loss of concentration that led to turnovers.

Did we look improved over last game? The turnovers looked coachable, IMO...
