Re: Robert Goff at 7:20 tonight vs Garden City

I forgot how bad juco ball is to watch.

Re: Robert Goff at 7:20 tonight vs Garden City

Goff's stats
4 points (2-3 FG), 3 rebounds and thats it.

Re: Robert Goff at 7:20 tonight vs Garden City

you forgot to list his airball percentage.

Re: Robert Goff at 7:20 tonight vs Garden City

I only watched about 15 minutes of it but I don't think I saw them pass it to him more than once. Lots of one on one ball.

JUCO is glorified AAU ball. Goff will serve a purpose here, long and athletic body who can patrol the paint. Still don't think he will start but will give us quailty minutes off the bench.

All due respect to Orlando Allen, he seems like a great guy, but I hope we're not getting into a similar situation with Goff.

Re: Robert Goff at 7:20 tonight vs Garden City

As long as he's 6'10 and can block shots and can play 20 minutes per game he, along with Osby will make our frontcourt much improved next year. He doesnt have to be Dwight Howard. He just has to be a better rebounder/shotblocker than Nick Thompson, or our normal power forward, 6'5 Cade Davis.

I was excited about Goff, but dang, he isnt lighting it up in juco. It makes it difficult to get really excited about a guy who averages 8-9 in juco. that doesnt mean he wont be a good player at OU, but it lessens expectations and certainly makes you worry a little.

You would think a guy that is supposed to SUPER ATHLETIC that is 3 years removed from high school would be dominating juco, if he is indeed a high-major D1 caliber player.

Well after watching 3 airball, no blockout, ole defense from Mr. Thompson. He's has got to be a upgrade just on rebounding and defense.

Yeah, there wasn't much of an attempt to run an offense or work the ball inside for a better shot. Most of the time their "offense" consisted of a pass or two on the perimeter and then jack up a three or a long range jumper. It was selfish, everybody for himself hoops at its best.

On the other hand, Goff wasn't as aggressive in demanding the ball or rebounding as I expected him to be. Maybe he's been down that road before and knew that working his tail off to get open would be an exercise in futility. In any event, if last night's game was typical of the way he plays most of the time, I've got to agree that he will be a quality-minutes role player and not a starter. DM said the same things several weeks ago, and now I know what he meant. That was my first time to see Robert in a real game situation.

Agree. Anyone who is expecting him to come in and start from Day one or be a significant impact player is kidding themselves. He will have a minimal role, although important.

I watched most of the game and he really didn't stand out. They were packing in a zone on him and he wasn't getting any touches, but to his credit he wasn't jacking stuff up when he did get the ball. They would collapse on him and he would kick it back out to the open shooter.

He did seem athletic and had good size. He ran the court well on fast breaks and tried to crash the boards hard, he just didn't put up many numbers last night.

Still, just from what I saw I'm lowering my expectations and agree with campbest. He'll still be better than Thompson or whatever else we've got inside, but he's not going to be a Taj Gray type impact guy that catapults us into a tournament team. Hope I'm wrong.

If this is the case we have to find an impact big then....because as it sits we have osby and fitz...and both really should be playing the 4...so we still wont have a decent center?
