Oklahoma women fall at Little Rock in second straight loss
By Tyler Palmateer
CNHI Sports Oklahoma
A disappointing threegame road swing has the Oklahoma women’s basketball team searching for some answers.
The Sooners suffered their second straight offensive letdown in a 68-56 loss Tuesday at Little Rock.
Little Rock (2-3) had four players in doublefi gures, led by Raeyana DeGray’s 16 points. The
Trojans jumped out to an early 16-2 lead in the first quarter and never trailed.
The Sooners shot worse than 40 percent three days after a cold spell sunk them in an 18-point loss at No. 10 Oregon.
OU second-leading scorer Maddie Manning finished 0-of-6 shooting from the field and scored two points before fouling out, while leading scorer Vionise Pierre-Louis was limited because of early foul
trouble.
Pierre-Louis scored seven points — the center’s first game in singlefi gures this season — and OU (3-3) shot 38 percent from the field. Guards Gabbi Ortiz and Shaina Pellington were the lone bright spots with 15 points apiece.
OU shot just 9 of 30 in the first half and trailed 36-20 by halftime. Down 18 in the third quarter, the Sooners got as close as 52-49 after two Ortiz free throws in the fourth quarter but never could
tie or forge ahead.
Little Rock scored 20 points off 17 OU turnovers.
After averaging 97 points in three games to open the season, OU managed 69.3 during its road trip while going 1-2.
The Sooners return home Sunday to play Florida (4-3) in the Big 12/SEC Challenge at 2 p.m. in Lloyd Noble center.
