Sherri Coale interview with Hale KREF

Don't tell us you don't have a crush. Proof is here for everyone to read.

Blinded by the beauty. She would hurt you so bad, Syb and then she'd dump you for the cheap ##### ## ### you are.:ez-roll:

You, InRef(or whatever name she uses), and a couple of others are ruining this site. Please delete your registered names and stop posting until you get a chance to grow up.

You have resorted to a point of using profanity in your posts. While that is typically a sign of a poster who is unable to make his/her point intelligently, it is also illegal on a public site open to children.

It makes no sense anyway. If you hate OU, the coaches, and the players, why in the world would you want to be on here.

Please quit posting.

Alas, I’m going to disappoint you. If it wasn’t for people who share my views there would be no discussion on this site at all.

I am a realist. You and Syb are blind sunshine pumpers.

Feel free to leave if you don’t like it. No one here other than Syb would miss you.

You add nothing of value.

Perfect post! You are 100% correct!

I guess this thread should be titled "Gang Up on Syb" - as it sure has little to do with Sherri's radio interview.

For the uninitiated, there are lots of Sherri fans on here, but no one has ever said she was perfect. But, she's had unrelenting critics from the beginning on here. It didn't matter what she did, it was always "wrong." In-state recruiting? Never good enough. Hall of Fame nod? Not deserved, etc. etc,. etc.

And that kind of controversy was often accompanied by misguided admiration for the Wicked Witch of Waco. That often came from people who claimed to be OU fans, but who'd argue morality by bringing up stuff like Kelvin's "phone thing" or Billy Tubbs' alleged misdeeds. Those battles when on long before we got all of these new folks who want to pile on the "sunshine pumpers" and Syb in particular.

It's actually pretty sad for me to see this kind of discourse. I haven't crossed paths with Sherri in years, but I got to know her reasonably well when she was a college player. She was so impressive in every sense of the word.

I still think it ought to be required viewing for all the "bashers" to see the FSN-OK feature on Sherri when she was announced for the Hall of Fame. It even included tributes from Patty Gasso, who I didn't see being forced to say anything good about Sherri on camera. Personally, I have no doubt that Patty would be offended that her team's great "run" has been used as a figurative club on her basketball counterpart. I don't recall if K.J. Kindler was on the same video, but it's my honest opinion that she has a bunch of respect for Sherri.

I'm not saying I've never questioned anything she's done (like not redshirting some players, or not finding any suitable walk-ons for this past season). But I also know she's way more qualified to do her job than I am to critique it. End of story.

Well, you don’t get our posts. Most of us LOVE what Sherri DID and HAS done. We are talking about the lost 5-6 years what she HASN’T done. She doesn’t do the same job she used to . We are all greatful for how she revived the women’s program at OU and took it to great heights BUT she has let all of us and the university down the last 5-6 years as she is NOT doing a wonderful job now, just a average or a little below average. THAT is what we are saying living in the PRESENT. I’m in sales and no one cares what you did 5 years ago they grade you and evaluate you on NOW. That’s all.

If they had the same standard for WBB that they have for football, she’d be gone.

Attendance is down and not slightly. That’s key. It means interest is declining. That is bad for a sport that we should be trying to grow.

But, we aren’t because the standard isn’t the same. The powers that be don’t see WBB as important to the Athletic Department. I’m not convinced they even pay attention to the attendance.

Ever wonder why Oklahoma girls go play for other programs like Texas?

So you can argue about what she did in the past or whether you like her or not if you want to waste time. The reality, her job performance has been poor. Fans are bailing, OK girls either aren’t recruited or prefer other programs. Players transfer out. From my perspective, team chemistry is very low.

Finally, she’s quick to criticize players, rarely ever taking responsibility herself. Her job is to correct player shortcomings, not throw them under the bus as she did in her interview with Hale.

You are correct in that the negativity and Sherri attacks have been going on here since the beginning of this board. It almost seems like the women’s portion of OU Hoops was created for the sole purpose of attacking Sherri and the program. Even during back-to-back Final Fours she was being attacked for what she wore, random BS rumors which were never proven and everything in between. Also, the BS that Bo Overton was the reason for the success of the program which is laughable.

You are also right in that no one has said Sherri or the program is perfect. It’s those that complain, win or lose, Final Four or not, consistently which drives others to support Sherri and the program.

I had thought when the leader of negativity and innuendo left and supposedly created a new board to post negative crap constantly without any opposition would have attracted most of the negatives here to follow to the new negative board. Apparently and unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

The reason I am disappointed in Sherri’s efforts are the results in recent years as compared to her previously great efforts.

A lot of that is the lesser quality of players we’ve been forced to rely upon. But the coach isn’t recruiting very well.

Now the last two years that seems to be changing dramatically and I am tremendously optimistic that the product is going to improve significantly in the next 4 years.

IMO, our coaching staff from the top down got comfortable and lazy. Combined with what sometimes seems to be overly restrictive recruiting based on player behavior and possibly religious beliefs, we have seen the results.

I’m an opinionated person. I judge based upon results and character. That’s how everyone judges in life and work.

Sherri has great character and she wants to turn out great, complete people. That is to be lauded and I do.

But her prime directive based upon the $1.2 million she receives is to win basketball games and make OU’s program a national powerhouse similar to UConn, ND, etc.

She did that once (in the beginning) for a long time. She slipped badly the last few years.

Now it’s time to revert to winning ways.

I have lauded Sherri, the coaches and players when I felt they deserved it and when the coached and played up to the level set by previously great OU squads.

But a minority of posters here don’t want my opinion and thinking to be allowed on this board -or anyone else’s who has the courage and strength to debate and differ with Sherri’s blind supporters.

Well, too bad pumpers. We are here to stay.

You can hit the road if you don’t like it.

I think it's funny when SC says in her most recent interview podcast that she isn't willing to just settle for just any player, just for the sake of having bodies, but what it seems to me with the exception of a couple of girls, in the last few classes that's EXACTLY what she's done. I'm still troubled about our numbers for next year. At this point we have 11 including those 6 freshmen. Only 3 have playing time. God forbid injuries. I really hope she grabs two more girls in this class.

soonerguy,
the roster is a mess. YOU cannot fix that overnight.
The 2018 class is a huge step in the right direction as was the 2017 class with two impact players.
But the sad reality is that it's going to take excellent this spring and excellent recruiting in 2019 to "fix" the roster.
And by fix I mean....
A group of 5 to 6 true reliable playmakers (so you have some depth for injuries/etc and challenge for playing time) plus 3 to 4 kids that have a role off the bench that they execute very well. Something like that.

OU didn't get here in one recruiting class and cannot fix it in one recruiting class.

Exactly! IMHO...the decline began in 2007/2008. And when I stated this day was coming if major changes are not made with staffing, development and recruiting...I was accused of "not liking SC"! Who gives a rat about like and unlike. Supporting a program as a fan is not about liking the coach. Many basketball fans don't like UCONN's Auriemma because of his perceived arrogance and sideline antics (that have actually decreased, somewhat). BUT HIS PROGRAM WINS, they graduate and he runs a tight ship. They probably don't "like" him but they keep watching and buying tickets because he earns his check and they WIN!

So, hopefully something will happen soon to change the continual decline of winning at the top of the national pack. It's going to take some years to turn it around as it did when SC first arrived. But change must come. If you keep doing the same thing, expecting a different result...insanity. Hopefully someone is putting together a strategic plan to rebuild and maintain 1st-2nd in conference and top 10-12 nationally. In the meantime, I'm just enjoying watching others play really good competitive hoops! Now back to my recliner!

I was actually only trying to give a bit of a historical perspective on why many are defensive of the program. We had to endure roughly a decade of not only incessant Sherri-bashing but also Mulkey-worship. Fortunately, many of those weirdos (the so-called OU fans who loved Mulkey and wanted to argue morality by bringing up Tubbs, Sampson and Switzer) are gone from here.

There was actually a non-mod on here who said they'd be "proud" to have Mulkey as OU's coach (as if...) and also said she was more attractive than Sherri. I correctly pointed out that the only way Mulkey could out-shine Sherri in the looks department would be if Sherri had acid thrown on her.

With this post I'm not here to either (A) debate the present or (B) offer up any hidden meanings to anything that I posted in this thread. I never communicate that way.

There is a strawman: the Sunshine Pumper who worships Sherri Coale, thinks she is cute, and overlooks any deficiencies. Then, the straw man is attacked as though he really existed, rather than just being an artificial device made up as a pretense of reality.

A parent knows every deficiency of his child. A spouse is aware of every deficiency of the other spouse. But, you don't sit there and complain about all of the faults. It accomplishes nothing, leads to no growth, and may result in emotional problems. You encourage and support as they work through issues, hopefully with the understanding that there will be a time when you will need their strength. Hopefully, you provided some.

The so-called sunshine pumper is aware of every mistake, turnover, missed shot, or weakness on the team. If you have been around, you remember every recruit and awaited their growth. Sometimes, it doesn't work out. Sometimes it does. You don't reject your children because they can't jump. If you could jump, you would be on the team.

Everyone sees the reality of the team. Nobody knows it more than does the sunshine pumper. He's followed each member of the team since he first heard the name. If you know the usernames, you might be surprised to find out why those names exist. What does 35TangoTango mean? What does it say about his support of the team?

We know the reality. We also are looking for signs of improvement. Many of us love Geno because he is the model for a great program. It is interesting that he calls Sherri the model of what a college coach should be. What is it that he values?

We have had three good recruiting years in a row. Unfortunately, the two from the first year left. That happens, even to UConn. Baylor lost Mompremier. Baylor had a national title team disassemble due to "retirements" or transfers that just couldn't stay at Baylor. With Shaina, Ana, Madison, and Tatum, I think we may have four starters who are better than any four we have had recently. Need one more and some reserves. Could it be Taylor or Nydia? Must we recruit the next starter now? We almost have the pieces.

Texas just graduated McCarty and Atkins. Do they have the right pieces any more? Is there a replacement guard at point? Baylor has a lot of similar pieces coming in. Right ones? Behind OSU? We've won 16 of the last 23 against them. One basket makes them the better program?

Is being negative funny? One thing I can remember about my playing days, in any sport. Nobody liked it if you had a negative attitude about a game. It's only fun if you look for a way to win and try to do it.

This has the makings of a mini-series.

Boy does it.

Another "World According To Syb" post.

He is right that we have had a good couple of years recruiting. I'll even give him that some years you just miss with recruits. But what if that happens for 3,4,5 or 7 years? That's what we were working on until the Dungee, Mulkey class came in. That's what spawned all the recruiting threads on this board for years. Once we finally woke up and started getting quality players again, all the discussion basically ended except for future classes.

I also know that folks like Syb and Sweetest and Tycat know and understand the problem. I don't think anyone is stupid. What I take issue with is their refusal to discuss and their authoritarian behavior to posters who don't constantly praise Sherri and the program with every typed word.

I am reminded that for 6 years Syb has sworn up and down that Maddie Manning was going to the second coming of Stacy Dales and Whitney Hand. She was going to lead us to the promise land. We all see what happened. It was terrible that she got badly injured and lost two years. But she had two seasons to make up for it, and while probably being the best player on this squad, she was rarely the difference maker Syb predicted. She showed flashes and then, as even Syb reluctantly admitted (perhaps unwittingly) through some posts, she was subpar to be kind.

My point is, look over the last 6 years -- Who has been more accurate with their predictions and comments about this team? The pumpers or the hated naysayers like me?

I think it's been people like me.

Am I rude, boisterous, opinionated, challenging -- yeah. Blame that on my journalist background. But I don't look at the same dog for years and try and make it a golden lamb.

I think the future is brighter than it's been since Abi left. I look forward to next season. But if Pellington and others haven't learned by then to play defense or to improve on their offensive performance, then who should get the blame?

I couldn't care less what Mulkey or Coale looks like, I only care what happens on the court and in that department Mulkey has "out-shine" Coale..To tell the truth they both look like left overs from a 1980's Def Leppard concert

So if the "sunshine pumpers" post their opinions that is "refusal to discuss" and "authoritarian behavior", but the if the critics (I'm using the politest word I can think of) are "rude, boisterous, opinionated" that's okay because their side is just?

It seems more to me that the "critics" are the ones who are refusing to discuss and exhibiting authoritarian behavior.

When I express an opinion, I am subjected to obscenities and name calling. That's a shame because I am usually right.

Maybe both sides need to practice a little more tolerance.
