Sherri on radio

What I mean is this:

I think Sherri wanted Aaron, with her ability and international experience, to be the "it" player this year that Sherri has referred to in the post season and Aaron just didn't have it in her to be that type of leader.

I didn't say there was something bad going on between Aaron and Sherri I just said I thought something was going on between them.

I do think, at times, Aaron seemed mentally just worn out. At least to me she did. As others have mentioned there were times where she just disappeared. A true leader never does that.

Morgan's quote in the paper was "what more can I do?", I believe indicating some frustration on her part with what was going on.

You have 4 seniors, whom I think Sherri was talking about when she talked about the emotional ups and downs.

If it wasn't Aaron and it wasn't Morgan -- then does anyone really think it was Portia or Nicole? Come on. Sherri wouldn't expect either of those to be a leader. Now if you want to talk about busting a gut and providing "it" on the floor, I think Nicole might fit that bill because she disappeared in games more than anyone.

As to non-seniors, I don't think you can say it was Kornet, although she might have played a part. Kay-Kay or Sharane? I think Sharane is more like Whitney in leadership ability, so I can't belief she wasn't putting out maximum effort. Kay-Kay, I can see her not being completely mentally engaged or busting a gut to get better (because of her repeated silly fouls and because she was coming off a major injury).

Lower classmen? Who? No way.

I'm not saying they were fighting or in the dog house or that Sherri was unreasonable in her expectations or that there was some major bruhaha among the players or players and coaches.

But even the coach said something was going on with the team and she didn't know how to fix it.

I know that D1 players don't really get any time off any more. But I wonder if playing on the Team USA team last summer didn't drain Vegas somewhat.

I have never read or heard that anyone had a beef with Aaryn. In fact, I've never had any indication of conflict by anyone on the team. I would be a bit surprised if that were the case.

I was responding to comments on the board. Not going back to reread, if I misinterpreted something, I am sorry. Otherwise, I believe my post does not contradict your last two sentences.

I was just making a personal comment with no real inside information available. No apology needed at all. :)

Results this year reflected 1) really poor shooting in the paint. 2) persistent foul trouble for 2 or 3 of the starters. 3) Vegas was the only pure shooter and the better teams worked to deny her the ball. 4) for Carter, it was on the job learning. 5) it was a team of supporting cast players so it really didn't seem to make a difference which 5 were on the court.

Clearly foul trouble was a problem as Campbell, Kornet, Carter, the centers and oft times Hook were in early foul trouble.

Don't agree with the role player assertion. We had four legit starters returning and they often turned in very good performances for at least parts of the games. Consistency was a major problem. Possible just a poor basketball IQ.

We did miss a lot of layups. Carter missed two very crucial ones in the DePaul game. She still hasn't learned that she is quick enough that she doesn't have to rush. KayKay missed a ton of them while at other times made strong moves to hit close in shots. Consistency again.

I hear that we run a motion offense. I don't see much evidence of that. Not a lot of movement on the court. Not a lot of screening except for ball screens. A lot of dribbling. As a result a lot of shots behind the arc were taken under pressure, out of rhythm or beyond a reasonable range. We have a fair number of players with a reputation of being good outside shooters. Sherri says so herself. But somehow we don't have many of them hitting treys consistently.

Agreed. Rhythm is so important in consistency in shooting. When the offense relies so much on dribbling, it causes too much standing around and the defense doesn't have to move. I wish we could be come a solid passing team and force the defense to move. This would allow better set ups for our out side shooters and more inside/out plays that forces the defense to defend either the low block or outside. Look how many teams took advantage of us this year by passing and setting up the 3 and burning us. Looking forward to better fundamental offense next season.
