Sherri on radio

Derica was dating a football player a few weeks ago. If that relationship is still ongoing (I have no idea one way or the other) then I would expect her to stay.

BINGO, but that isn't the main reason she is staying. Playing for Coach Coale is.

Thanks Roc! I always appreciate the views of those (I think Tango is another) who choose to be closer to the program by joining the Fast Break Club where you can get to know the players, coaches and staff better and have maybe just a little more insight into the program than many of the rest of us.

Perhaps all of the transfer speculation looked like wishful thinking, but I'm not sure anyone outright said "YOU. LEAVE. NOW." about any specific players.

I imagine that some of the players currently on our roster must have been disappointed with their lack of minutes during the past season. That is usually what leads to transfers.

I don't think it would be too much of a stretch to say that we are going to have at least one transfer out of the program during the offseason.

Good post Badger. We don't know who is unhappy or not. We don't know if a kid or two is having difficulty with school work, or just doesn't get the system. A lot of things to think about. Over all I really like this group and the 4 newbies coming in. There seems to be some attrition at the end of the year, we'll just have to wait a couple of months to find out.

FTR, I DO NOT want anyone transferring. Syb, as usual, is putting words in people's mouth, including mine.

I was simply speculating about rumors someone was possibly going to transfer and I tried to focus in on who I thought it might be.

I think Wyatt and Kellog are both good additions to the team. No one should want them to transfer.

Right now, I just don't think those two are going to get a lot of minutes next season and playing time is usually one of the major factors in a player transferring.

We all know Sherri doesn't give her bunch a lot of time on the court -- although I think this season was a bit of an exception to that rule.

I hope Wyatt comes in and bombs away at a 40 or 50 percentage next season and God knows we need a forward to rebound, one who can hit a jump shot and a layup.

It wouldn't surprise me if we have a transfer or two and it wouldn't surprise me if we don't.

God also knows we used to have that player … I think we called her Amanda Thompson … or was it Leah Rush?
Seriously, if we're going to continue with the 4-guard offense, it would be nice to find an assertive player with post toughness, but also having perimeter ball-handling, facilitation and shooting skills … that should be easy enough to find right?:D

Well, since you brought it up, my prediction for what it's worth, it will be Maddie and Gabbi next year. Just a gut feeling.

If anyone thinks something was going on with Vegas and another Player/players, or Coach Coale or another coach, then why did she get so much playing time. If they did not need her, if she had a bad attitude, why not bench her? Of course, the coach and Morgan said they would be ready to play without her, what were they supposed to say........well, if Vegas doesn't play we might as well forfeit? Did you watch Senior night? Did you hear the Coach and the players? Did you see the players interact? I just do not believe Vegas had an issue with anyone. Did they all always agree? no Did they sometimes get on each others nerves? most probably I do believe the team was ready for the year to be over. Not Vegas or Portia or Sharane, but some of the others. Yes, they wanted to win in the NCAA but they were also ready to have a new beginning. The Seniors to go onto something else and the underclassmen to start fresh again.

There was a problem.........I have an opinion on what the problem was but I am not a coach and I was not there and besides, whatever I think I do not want to be negative about someone on a message board. It really does not matter what I think and putting negativity out there is not healthy for any of us.

I just hope next year is better. I would add that I don't want to see anyone leave. I would like for them all to get better and, if they don't start, still be able to contribute and enjoy being on the team. If they do leave, I hope it is what is best for them. I did not know Felisha had grade problems. I hate that. Maybe she transfers to a Division II school, just hope she gets her degree and would love for her to get a chance to develop her raw skill. If you are a good post or a good point guard, you have a much better chance in the W because there is a shortage of players who play those positions well at that level.

Great post! I agree! Definitely about the negativity!

Apparently, something is being made about Sherri's comments when addressing the fact that Vegas would miss a couple of games. Her response was something to the effect that if she isn't there, we'll have to be ready to play without her. She could have said the same thing about anyone. It was how you have to deal with a missing player. To think she would be angry with Vegas would be somewhat like thinking that she would be angry with Maddie or Whitney for having ACL tears.

I doubt that you can put the team's lack of "chemistry (?)" on any one or two players. It's more like it just didn't fit. It was kind of specific about how it didn't fit in that it seemed to be most apparent in close games. But, it was more like nobody stepped up than that they did something wrong. At the end of Casey at the Bat, Mighty Casey strikes out. Babe Ruth had 714 home runs which was the record for a great many years. He struck out 1330 times, almost twice as often. I think most managers would want Ruth.

As long as there is a next year...........

I have never read or heard that anyone had a beef with Aaryn. In fact, I've never had any indication of conflict by anyone on the team. I would be a bit surprised if that were the case.

If I were reaching for an explanation, I'd say that losing makes everything seem worse than it probably is. I imagine that months of practice and travel coupled with losing made tempers short and perhaps a few tears shed.

Spot on what everyone has said.

When you consider Mo is hanging around to be assistant strength coach, when Sherri talks about lack of leadership this season, you know almost have to acknowledge she's talking about Vegas and Griffin, perhaps Durrett some (for maybe not trying hard enough in practice or something).

I think there was something going on between Vegas and Sherri or the other coaches and players. It's just a hunch. No proof. Vegas has never been a vocal leader so that fits in a bit with what Sherri has been saying. There are a few things that could easily be misconstrued, but I think, perhaps, Vegas was tired of Sherri and the program.

ViVi is scheduled to be cleared in October, as reported. I couldnt tell for certain, but I agree with previous poster who said Sherri's clear intent was that she couldn't afford to redshirt her, even if she didn't see significant floor action until late. I'm betting she won't get any serious floor time until February.

That entire big thing doesn't spell good things for Gibbs and Kellog. I wonder if this is the indication that Kellog may be the possible transfer, especially since Sherri indicated she wants another big in this class.

If Norman is right, Gibbs has to leave because of grades -- or the coaches changed their minds about keeping her around (she wasn't counting against the scholarship limit anyway was she?).

I think, and it's just a gut hunch that the transfer is Kellog or Wyatt -- if there is one. Edwards is a lesser possibility, I think because she's more a Hartman type player who could see valuable time because of that.

Yep, my money is on Kellog and/or Wyatt. I think Wyatt because all she's going to do over the next two years is faller deeper and deeper down the depth chart. I don't think Kellog is going to get much of a chance based on what I've seen with other bigs. Think Jeffcoat, Zander and Cloman.

:facepalm

I defintley agree with that statement; I thought I was alone on that one. I remeber in one of the post game conferences either Sherri or Morgan were asked about Vegas going into the next game and Sherri responded "if she can't get ready, the rest of us wil be." Then Morgan said something about being in every game and the interview went on.

I believe Wyatt will end up transferring. I remember someone posting about her being homesick. Wouldn't shock me.

:facepalm

I would agree with this. The only time that I know of that there was conflict with players ,Sherri hinted at it in some statements she made. I never heard anything like that this year.

I think this was one of the few teams that Sherry has had where the whole wasn't greater than the sum of it's parts. I think it was a leadership issue on the court and I don't think you can blame anyone in particular. Sometimes, you mix up all the ingredients for chocolate chip cookies and they turn out great. Other times, you use the same recipe and they are blah. The under achievement of this team is almost as big of a mystery as the over achievement of last years team.

What I mean is this:

I think Sherri wanted Aaron, with her ability and international experience, to be the "it" player this year that Sherri has referred to in the post season and Aaron just didn't have it in her to be that type of leader.

I didn't say there was something bad going on between Aaron and Sherri I just said I thought something was going on between them.

I do think, at times, Aaron seemed mentally just worn out. At least to me she did. As others have mentioned there were times where she just disappeared. A true leader never does that.

Morgan's quote in the paper was "what more can I do?", I believe indicating some frustration on her part with what was going on.

You have 4 seniors, whom I think Sherri was talking about when she talked about the emotional ups and downs.

If it wasn't Aaron and it wasn't Morgan -- then does anyone really think it was Portia or Nicole? Come on. Sherri wouldn't expect either of those to be a leader. Now if you want to talk about busting a gut and providing "it" on the floor, I think Nicole might fit that bill because she disappeared in games more than anyone.

As to non-seniors, I don't think you can say it was Kornet, although she might have played a part. Kay-Kay or Sharane? I think Sharane is more like Whitney in leadership ability, so I can't belief she wasn't putting out maximum effort. Kay-Kay, I can see her not being completely mentally engaged or busting a gut to get better (because of her repeated silly fouls and because she was coming off a major injury).

Lower classmen? Who? No way.

I'm not saying they were fighting or in the dog house or that Sherri was unreasonable in her expectations or that there was some major bruhaha among the players or players and coaches.

But even the coach said something was going on with the team and she didn't know how to fix it.
