He is probably the best defensive player on the team, and seems like the logical choice to play point guard. I don't think its gonna work out with Pledger playing that spot. In 15 less minutes per game, Newell has 2 fewer assists and 8 fewer turnovers than Pledger.

I don't know who OU plans to sign for that position, and they do have TJ Taylor available who can play point guard the next year as well. But, I think if Calvin is ever going to reach his full potential than he should learn how to play PG. Might as well give him 25 minutes per game at that spot this year, and see what he can do. Let Blair have the other 15 minutes. I dont think its good for anyone to have Pledger playing the role of point guard.

Good athlete, very quick, strong, good ball-handler. He has all the qualities you want in a point guard, he is just raw and has a scorers mentality. Thats ok, let him control the ball and let Pledger play off ball.

i think right now we should go 20-20 blair and newell so that Newell can get his feet wet, then by conference have newell the starter and blair the back up

I want to see more consistency out of Newell in running the offense and getting assists before saying he should be the guy. In my opinion he is the backup PG.

Blair runs the offense, he knows where everyone is supposed to be and gets them in the right spots. He makes plays and distributes the ball.

Newell doesn't know where everyone is supposed to be and does a lot of dribbling around the perimeter trying to figure out what's going on which has led to Capel using timeouts to get things set up. The positives he's done are things 2 guards do, knock down jumpers and get to the rim, more 1 on 1 plays.

Blair is a coach on the court, Newell is not there yet.

Blair and Newell should split the point guard minutes. And not by Blair playing the first 32 minutes and Newell the final 8, they should have an actual rotation. We need Pledger's scoring for this team to win and he's not scoring from the pg spot.

I guess it cant hurt...IMO he has the most upside of the PG's that are playing, just not very polished and doesnt really give us the best chance to win...

But he does provide a spark as well as solid defense...gonna have some turnovers but if he is aggressive offensively i could probably deal with that...

If we are playing guys for the future then Newell needs to get tons of minutes...

Agreed. Newell is by far the best defender. Neither Blair or Pledger has impressed me with their defensive quickness. However, Blair runs an offense better than the other two.

Taylor wasn't a PG in HS so I doubt he's the answer.

I'm not sure the starting PG next season is on campus yet.....

Yeah and let the other team point guard scores on us at will. Blair is a coach on the court who is not quick enough to defend. Jacob Pullen or Dunn will score on him whenever they like.

Blair was battling an illness prior to going to Maui which seemed to slow him up quite a but, but he played pretty good defense in Maui. I don't think we'll see a PG as short and quick as Steven Bennett from Chaminade again this season. Calvin Newell couldn't guard Bennett either. I think Blair is still the guy until Newell can win the job.
