Sooner team "Capel-able" of getting back to winning ways

In anticipation of the upcoming season, Sooner fans believe that coach Jeff Capel's team is "capable" of getting back to its' winning ways of competing for a conference championship and going further into the NCAA tournament if they can take the never-say-die attitude of their coach.

Click here to look at the incredible buzzer-beater that coach Capel executed as a player helping his Duke Blue Devils team get into overtime against their arch-rival North Carolina Tarheels in what has been called one of the most exciting finishes in ACC history back in 1995.

Duke had nothing to lose and everything to gain that year as their record was only 10-9 as compared to a Tarheels team that had a record of 16 wins against only 2 losses and was ranked Number 2 in the nation. Staunch Blue Devil Fans will tell you that they were having a miserable season because their legendary Coach Mike Krzyzewski was out of action due to severe back problems. But Jeff Capel made sure that Duke didn't have to make any excuses by scoring on a running one-legged jump-shot from slightly outside the top of the key that is still very exciting to watch.

That Blue Devil team led by Jeff Capel believed in their hearts that they could win that game by actually staying close enough and being within striking distance at the end of the game to be able to put the game into overtime when the odds were stacked against them. Coach Capel will need that same type of determination and "no excuses" mentality from his Sooner team in the upcoming 2010-2011 season as they enter into it with a lot uncertainty.

Great leaders like coach Jeff Capel do not come around very often, and having that will-to-win has proven to be one of his best attributes as he and his team embark upon a new season. Hopefully, all of coach Capel's current players have seen this video and will embrace their coach's heroic efforts by giving everything they've got in every game all the way until the final buzzer sounds.

I really think this team will come out with a chip on it's shoulder. There are some very good pieces. The question is will this team develop a solid chemistry that is good enough to win ball games. I think the egos have been checked at the door and they will develop this needed chemistry. BOOMER SOONER BABY!!!

I'm not worried about ego's with this team. I'm worried about lack of talent, experience and post game. I just hope they play hard this year. Next year and beyond I will have higher expectations for wins and losses.

Totally agree.

I don't post very much in the summer. Just curious, what is the team doing right now? I'm guessing typical summer work outs and pick up ball. Does anyone have a report on how they are progressing?
