Tech hiring Billy G "imminent"

Didn't he try to run off Acie Law when he first got the A&m job for something dumb?
He is just hot name because of his story. Good coach but not a program changer. He will do solid job at tech.
Not a program changer? Lets look at A&M before he got there and since he got there..thats a changed program.

BCG caught lightning in a bottle at A&M. He basically inherited some solid players that had never had a decent coach, then recruited a few more and enjoyed some success for a couple of years. The turnaround at A&M made him a hot commodity, but then he went to Kentucky and was quickly and thoroughly exposed.

Think about it, guys. If a coach can't win at Kentucky with a roster full of all-world talent, why do you feel so strongly that he'll succeed over the long haul at OU? I agree with the minority of the posters who believe we can do better than Billy C.

Did he catch lightning in a bottle at UTEP too?

Unfortunately, we are a school, much like Tech and oSu, where if you want to hire a guy with a national name, it will have to be a guy who has a tarnished reputation.

Just like Sutton, Knight and Huggins. If you aren't one of the elites, you don't pull a guy like that unless there is a reason the big boys won't touch him.

I take it as a point of pride that OU hasn't taken the route that oSu, Tech and KSU took by hiring those guys. Sure, success on the court will follow when you hire these guys, but at what cost? Isn't it "selling your soul" to some degree?

Plus, OU has been historically successful without going that route. We have a two-year losing streak, but that doesn't mean we should panic and sell out the integrity of our program. We can correct this the right way, and we will. The idea that the only solid coach we can get is one with multiple DUI's is ridiculous to me.

And?

he was offered a major job after a few seasons at UTEP...then offered the Mecca of college basketball after a few seasons at A&M...for most, a coaches dream...

I am confused at anyone that uses this as a negative towards him...

No joke, that is a logical progression...not sure how you say "no" to either of those promotions.

:clap:clap:clap
(Is the above post sufficiently informed?)

Tech just went from middle to the pack to front of the class.

That guy is gonna be a recruiting machine to Tech, and a great coach.

He turned A&M around really fast and they were in way worse shape than Tech is... Also, UTEP is out in the middle of nowhere as well and he turned them into a big time team as well.

ZOMG tech is going to win multiple national titles within 10 years ZOMG ZOMG

BCG will do well at Tech. He certainly knows how to recruit in Texas and he's already turned around two programs in that state. I'm not saying Tech is going to win the conference anytime soon, but I think they will make the tourney in 2013.
