So, the elephant in the room: Sam Godwin.

He has not been playing his best ball as of late. I will not re-hash my long rant about where he stands in my book.

I just want to show some accompanying stats that he is having his worst year as a Sooner so far.

Showing stats of year before Moser + years with/current:

The only positive to takeaway from his stats this year are that he is having his best rated defensive year (but that could be bc of a lot of noncon right now). Will be interesting to see what it looks like at the end of the year, bc he is getting battered in SEC play.

On the positive flip side, Moore is having a GREAT year. We have seen some wings really develop under Moser (Soares/Moore). However, our bigs have left SO much to be desired.

If Wague can stop the dang dumb fouls, he may be on his way? But, we need something. I hope Kai can bring a better presence and we can find another complimentary big next year.

I'd hope that Sam will continue to see his minutes cut, but that will depend on Wague staying out of foul trouble. I know Luke made a three the other day, and also hit the FTS when Arky stupidly fouled him on a 3, but if we end up having to play him more than a couple minutes a game against better teams, we are sunk.

I think the depressing part for me is that Soares and Moore are really the only two players in Moser's tenure who have made significant jumps. Sam is covered above. Luke is in his third year on campus and is barely serviceable. Cole looks like he will never play a meaningful role and will likely transfer. Keita ... nonfactor. We've talked a lot about how disappointing last season was for Uzan and Oweh. Noland and Cortes didn't show much, if any, improvement between freshman and sophomore year. Tanner and Jacob were basically the same guys in their two seasons.

We are a program that has to develop guys. Fears notwithstanding, we aren't going to sign many one-and-done guys with elite talent. I know Houston has started getting some better recruits recently, but the backbone of their program is player development. Look at Roberts' career arc. The other day, Wilson was huge for them. Shead was certainly not a guy anyone expected to be a first-team AA. Each year, when they lose guys to graduation and/or the NBA, younger guys who have developed in the program step in, and they succeed because those guys play really well when their role increases. I don't expect Moser to be Sampson -- KS is one of the two or three best coaches in the sport. But we also can't expect to succeed if 80 or 90 percent of our guys fail to expand their games or even improve their strengths.
