I would like to know really what happened with Taylor. Now that he is at another school I dont believe the story about he left because of a concussion. If he did then why isnt he back at the school??

Frustrating, I know it doesnt matter and we keep beating a dead horse but Capel just couldnt keep guys. Think about the potential list

Capel Lost:
1) Damion James
2) Scottie Reynolds
3) A Coach
4) TJ Taylor

I know I am missing several guys but these above guys were key.

Then even if we losted WW if we never had capel we still would have gotten clark.

Awful decision to ever hire capel. Lol, flame on.

Capel did not loose James and Reynolds those were Sampsons recruits not Capels to loose.

As for Taylor I am from Denison and have been around this kid many times to say it as truthfully as I can this is not the easiest kid to manage and I think he was in a little over his head at OU academic wise. But with proper handling could have made an impact at OU. That is one thing Capel sruggled with.

I don't think that Capel can be let of the hook on the Reynolds deal that easily. Reynolds was from Virginia and knew all about Capel. There wasn't anything about Oklahma that he didn't like. He just didn't want to play for Capel. Remember, Capel made a big push to keep him on board. He even violated NCAA rules when he took his wife with him to Scottie's house. That should have been the first clue that Capel couldn't nail down the quality kids. All he could get were the outlaws with alittle talent.

MCDAA's before Capel 2 all time

MCDAA's signed by Capel 4 ..

you can say lots and lots of bad things about Capel but that he couldn't sign quality kids is not one of them

:facepalm

None of the OU coaches have been able to consistently bring in QUALITY MCDAA's. The difference is, Tubbs and Kelvin didn't a) bring in a bunch of the bad apples that schools like Duke/UNC weren't recruiting, and b) they didn't waste a bunch of time recruiting pipe dreams like Harrison Barnes.

I get so frustrated when people post this crap.

Blake Griffin -- high probabibility he was a sooner regardless (but lets give capel the credit anyways)

WW -- He was good for 1 year and crap for the second...but he was still a good get

TMG -- terrible terrible sign. Everyone was questioning his work ethic

Gallon -- Didnt his highschool coach kick hiim off the team at one point?

So either capel was a terrible recruiter, or was a terrible person to coach high level talent

Boulder we shouldn't correlate good kids with McDonald all americans. MCDAA's are talented it doesn't mean they are good kids. I would say one of the 4 was a quality person. Blake is awesome but the other 3 were terrible people and it cost Capel his job.

Your kidding. Mcdonald's All Americans. Tell me about their character. Tell me about the on court record. Blake made everyone on that last team look better than what they were. That is what great players do. Tell me about WW without Blake. Tell me about how Pledger and Fitz got to town and then went over to the Mall on a stealing spree. There is no evidence that Capel did anything but hurt the program and university with his bad recruiting decisions

thats BS. Before capel, all OU fans wanted and were *****ing about were how we don't the the 5* AA type players. We got them and guess what? For the most part they didn't work out. Capel made mistakes in character evaluations, not talent. Now those same people are saying we need QUALITY MCDAA.:facepalm Just face it, you will never be happy. You can't have your cake and eat it to. Getting kids with bad attitudes comes with the price of getting MCDAA. Capel wasn't able to make it work and the ones he got backfired. It happens. And it doesn't just happen to OU. Capel was just too inexperienced to figure out how to make all the egos work.

Its unfair to blame the lose of Scottie and James on Capel. They wanted to play for Sampson, not OU.

Tired how every discussion on this board ends up in a Capel discussion

Oh and is it really that hard for people to realize WW was hurt his sophemore year? WW was the least of our problems

Capel made mistakes in character evaluations.....

Not true. He knew EXACTLY what he was getting with WW, Tiny, and TMG. EXACTLY. He chose to bring them in anyways. He was never under the illusion that these were "good kids". He just thought he could get enough out of them on the court that it wouldn't matter. He was wrong.

So you have no idea what happened with Taylor, but yet you know enough to blame it all on Capel? Brilliant.

Semantics.

I, for one, am pretty tired of seeing a player's status as a McDAA used as the be-all, end-all of assessing his value to a program. If TMG and Tiny have taught us nothing else, we should at least have learned that it's not wise to place so much importance on this single factor in adjudging future players' suitability to wear crimson and cream.

That said, OU had at least four McDonald's All-Americans before Capel arrived: Wayman, Ryan Humphrey, Jeff Webster, and Drew Lavender.

So how well did you know the kids? Pretty well? Very well? Were you close family friends? That's quite the indictment to call 18 and 19 year old kids "terrible people"...even TMG.

Lemme guess..............you were born pre-1950.

Stereotyping is a terrible habit, no matter whether you stereotype based on ethnicity, race, sex or age.

I would agree that most of us don't know these kids at all, so to call them 'terrible people' is an exaggeration.

I was being sarcastic...Probably should have included a smiley.

I'm just spitballing here but I'd imagine that if the kid already had some academic issues prior to coming to OU that his post-concussion studies were particularily difficult with the headaches and after effects of the injury lasting much longer than what was anticipated.

I had also heard something about him getting in trouble but never heard anything specific/definite.

How the f does this coaching staff get credit for Tiny Gallon ? His damn recruitment (I guess I don't believe the "he was already signed to OU" stuff) got us back on probation for 2 major violations. I mean I read some stupid stuff around here but that just gets me pissed.

Anyway I wish we could have kept Scottie and Damion but barring a huge, big name hire they were out the door. Capel made the best of a bad situation at the time and for that I give him credit.
