TJ Taylor

Carruth was a transfer from Kentucky. I guess he had to be highly recruited if he went to Kentucky, but I really don't remember his ranking out of HS. His numbers at Kentucky weren't really that good. I don't think he ever even played at OU before being dismissed.

A good example of what you were talking about was Lou Moore who played one year at OU but was a head case and was kicked off. JR Raymond was kicked off in the middle of a season. So was Jabahri Brown sort of.

Sampson would have had a lot less people leave/get kicked off the team, if weed was legal.

There isn't any coach or program in the country that doesn't occasionally have a bad apple that has to be invited to leave. But Kelvin never had anything close to the kind of problems we saw the last two years. Whatever player personnel problems Kelvin had never impacted the won/loss record like we saw the past two years.

Anybody know what happened to TJ Taylor?

Keep asking 04!!!! Someone who actually tries to keep the threads on topic might stumble up on this one.....:):) I believe that there was an older thread that had some good info about TJ. Maybe some of the historians can get around the coach fights and actually post about TJ, in the thread that is SUPPOSED to be about TJ.......

Tell me about how Pledger and Fitz got to town and then went over to the Mall on a stealing spree. There is no evidence that Capel did anything but hurt the program and university with his bad recruiting decisions

I'd appreciate if you'd tell me about kids making bad decisions but learning from them. They are still on our team and don't deserve you calling them a bad recruiting decision. How about you Mr. High and Mighty, ever make a decision you regret? Hell, you wanna get rid of Ryan Broyles too? These two guys you mentioned aren't even McD's, so why did you include them on your rant when they don't fit your point?

I try to hold back when reading your kneejerk posts but sometimes can't refrain. That was out of line and I'm happy to have Pledge and Fitz here and contributing, and sorry, but a couple of shirts a couple of years ago isn't a big deal. Their subsequent humble behavior and work ethic should overshadow it by now. Outtaline!

Great! I have been able to identify another member of the forum police. If stealing is OK, where is the line? And what contibution are you talking about? Apparently, they don't play basketball well enough to help the team win games. And what does Broyles have to do with it? It is my understanding that the owner of the store, a big OU booster and ex- mayor, gave him the pump key so that he could slip in and out and get gas whenever he wanted to. And please correct me if I am wrong. But, didn't Broyles have to sit out his entire freshman year.

...and a Final Four.

And no losing seasons for Sampson. And making the post season every single year. And Big XII Championships. And Sampson had a crystal clear system that all of the fans could recognize. And Sampson's teams played hard and competed virtually 100% of the time (I recognize Sampson had some bad losses but Capel had way too many of them). And, And ...

Capel did not do a good job at OU. Sampson did. With that said, Sampson made some mistakes. He did lose too many guys to transfers. He did get in trouble with the NCAA. He did seem to have a problem getting along with a certain (and significant) percentage of OU fans.

Personally, I was a big Sampson fan and other than the NCAA issues, I really don't have anyproblems with him. I had a lot of problems with Capel.

I suspect my favorite OU coach of all time will always be Billy Tubbs but I also suspect Sampson will always be high on the list. I can assure you Jeff Capel is my least favorite OU coach and likely always will be. There may have been worse coaches in the past but I did not follow the program during those eras and it is debatable whether anyone was actually worse than Capel.

You two guys sure know how to screw up a really good cat fight! :ez-roll:

By the way, what did happen to T. J. Taylor?

I'm sorry if I was being thought of as "internet police" or contributing to a catfight or coach fight or straying from the topic of the thread. I thought the guy took a cheap shot at two current players who have worked very hard for the last few years. I thought he took the cheap shot in order to prove a point about Capel signing low character McD AA's, which I felt didn't work since they weren't McD AA's. I also thought they screwed up and have been hardworking and humble since they stole a couple shirts at Dillards in early 2010, and deserve a break. Like it or not, they are currently two of the better players on the team, and Kruger obviously feels they are important to the team. I also trust my gut and think they are probably pretty decent guys.

I had no idea that enough people didn't share that viewpoint for it to be supported here. I wasn't trying to pick fights or participate in them. I thought that a message board was where if you think someone made a comment you disagreed with, you had the right to offer a rebuttal. I have been here since the beginning and rarely post when I don't feel a strong urge to do so. In the name of smooth sailing, catfight peace and on-topic threads, I will go back to full time lurking. I am deeply grateful to the admins of this fantastic board and all the in state recruiting work, and I believe that our team will reflect their labors as we sign in-state players that may have not been as widely known before OUHoops. I will always read this board for its fantastic recruiting information, and the thoughtful insights of a large group of members here, and I will post any opinions I may have elsewhere.

However, one question still keeps me up at night chain smoking, pacing the floors, and scribbling equations on my chalkboard only to wipe them off and begin again: Does anyone know what really happened with T. J. Taylor?

Mayby it was a cheap shot. But they did it. Two freshmen, within 6 months of arriving on campus and right in the middle of basketball season, went over to the mall and stole merchandise. At that point they had not contributed anything or earned the right to be cut any slack.

Capel gave them a 2 game suspension. That is where my real problem is. To me it was an indicator of the permissive enviroment that he cultivated. The outlaws could just be outlaws if they wanted to. And a couple of them bit him on the butt.

As far as Fitz and Pledger. I don't think that they are particularly good basketball players. But, they seemed to have stayed out of trouble and are probably good kids. I would have just suspended them for season and let them redeem themselves from the bench.

Suspended for the rest of the season for attempted SHOPLIFTING? Are you serious?

I did not say that they should spend the rest of their lives in jail. I did not say that they should be expelled from school. I did not say that they should have their ships jerked.

I did say you should not be arrested for a crime one week and then be on national tv the next representing the University of Oklahoma. I believe that being at OU on an athletic scholarship is a privledge. And with that privledge comes responsibility.

If you want to defend shoplifting, go ahead. Once again, where is the line?

They weren't arrested. They were cited for petty larceny. No one is defending what they did, but a season-long suspension is hardly the answer for that type of offense.

No, no. They received special treatment because they were basketball players. Anyone and I mean anyone that gets caught shoplifting at the mall is hauled to jail and has to post bond before being released.

The police always have the option to write a ticket for a misdomeaner. But, the merchants at the mall insist on playing hardball.

If stealing is OK, where is the line?

By a mall cop, not Norman pd.

They were suspended for 2 games, maybe it should have been 4, but you are clearly trying to make this a bigger deal than it was.

Where did someone say that? Where?
