Trinity Oliver to Baylor

Skilled has taken a lot of criticism on this board because he claims to be a know it all, and has said Mulkey would be more of a project then a game changer at lest out the gate... But I'll say he's must be pretty close to someone when it comes to basketball recuriting because he does know a lot... Morris is no longer heading to UCLA, and will more then likely land at Baylor. When you see Ou missing out on the top kids from Texas, what ever relationship he said Sherri needs to fix needs to be fixed, it's starting to look like Ou will miss out on any kid that plays on any DFW team (which happens to be most) until things are patched up...

skilled's first post should have been his last. For someone to come on to an OU fan board and post that OU will be disappointed with Mulkey and Dungee in his first post demonstrated a complete lack of good taste, as well as a personal agenda.

skilled's first love, if not himself, is either Baylor or Texas, and he fits more on their boards. He is consistently complimentary of both and critical of OU.

His expertise is a knowledge of what appears to be the AAU system in Dallas. In the entire history of the sport of women's basketball, I am having difficulty remembering a superstar from DFW, one that won a national title or got anyone close. Maybe there have been. But, the area does not have the history to merit what is not a somewhat distorted appearing top fifty players in these scouting services. We see so many in the top ten from DFW, and that simply has not been the past. It seems to be more of the type of thing we saw with Bobby Burton and Max Empfinger for years----all Texas recruits were the top recruits at their position in the nation. This was actually the beginning of the Brown recruiting reputation of underachieving with great talent. They were all great in high school, according to Bobby and Max.

Let's see how some of this plays out as far as whether these kids are that good. Strange how it would suddenly become a mecca for talent. It's not like they dominate, even on the state high school level.

Then, there is still that matter of taste. If you want to diss OU, you are welcome on Baylor and Texas boards.

Odyssey Simms?

I actually go on there boards and tell them the truth also, but they don't act like you do. You meaning you alone, and not this board

I am a glass half full person but I do think we overhype our recruits. This leads to disapointing results.

I'm very encouraged about Llanusa and also like Mercer. Hope we get them.

I think Dungee will contribute overall and Rich will be solid at least on defense but do not see them as potential superstars.

If her minutes in Spain are an indication Mulkey is possibly a project. If Sherri refuses to use her as a 4 then we will not see much of her on the court for two more years because ViVi is a pretty dominant player and does not get into foul trouble as much as Williams. I also think ViVi's conditioning is better than most think. If Mulkey is a project then we need to have ViVi on the court.

Hope I am wrong and they all will be better than I think. You know hope springs eternal.

I'm not a big fan of redshirting but Mulkey may be an apt candidate for a redshirt year.

Llanusa will be really good coming in. She will fight for starting minutes when she comes in as a freshman.

You judge after four years, unless you are talking about Courtney. That is maybe a once in a generation player, a four-year-All-American. Did Breanna even make AA her first year?

There's a town in western Oklahoma of about 600 people that sent two kids to the San Francisco Warriors. Does that mean they are more of a hotbed that DFW?

You might be the smartest person alive.......but I guess we will have to wait and see. Terrible analogy

An appropriate analogy. DFW has yet to show that it merits having three or four of the top ten prospects in the nation every year.

I still question why you wish to participate on this board. Your first post was enough. You are not a fan of OU, and you haven't had anything good to say about OU. Why do you wish to be here? You are probably most welcome on the Texas and Baylor boards.

I would be disappointed in any "OU fan" that would not be insulted by your constant belittling of Nancy Mulkey. Whether she is a superstar or not before she leaves OU, does she merit the type of post that says that the fans didn't like her because she stood outside rather than mix it up. You actually inferred that the fans didn't like her. Isn't that a rather personal assault on a prospect? Do you challenge the character of Texas and Baylor recruits in this way?

I am not a fan of any school in the US....I am a huge fan of the sport of basketball and I choose to cover AAU basketball on the women side. I have my feelings about kids across America, but I would think you aren't worried about other kids. If you wish to ask me my opinion about another kid, I will definitely give you my honest opinion.

If it hurts you to read my opinion about certain kids, you are welcomed to block my post so that you do not have to read what I post. The only board that is a basketball community board is UConn. On that board they welcome all kids and all schools, so it's ok to speak about kids not going there.

Why do you speak so negatively about a young recruit? Is that your idea of loving basketball? Your comments about Nancy Mulkey have downgraded her talent, her desire to play basketball, and her courage. Do you think that is an appropriate way to discuss a young prospect?

And, why would you pick the board on which this young prospect is to play in order to make your rather, in my view, "unsportsmanlike" comments?

Some thoughts:

1. Everyone is a possible project until they get on the court. I expect we will be pleased with Nancy as she progresses. I for one will be quite shocked if she redshirts. If anyone expects her to score 30 or 40 points a game, you are dreaming, and don't understand the game very well. Her strength will be to change the flow and nature of the opponent's offense. If you can remember that far back, you realize that even Griner didn't dominate things at first. In fact she was a weak rebounder most of her career. And I can guarantee you Nancy won't break opponent's jaws, or pull their hair, or charge off the bench to try to get in a fight, or sneak up behind an opponent at midcourt and knock them down.

2. Vivi was a mess for a while early, but I don't recall many of you calling her a project. Vivi will not be able to dominate the league in my opinion, but will possibly have quite a few good games and an occasional great game. I do not expect her to be Big-12 player of the year though. She did have foul trouble at times - but perhaps some have tried to block out that memory. She did get that in a little bit better control as the season progressed.

3. I suspect you have not seen Chelsea play. On the court she looks very impressive. No matter what anyone else thinks, I am very glad she's a Sooner and expect we will be very happy with her as she progresses.

I too made all of the open practice and saw things to be optimistic about but felt we still do a very poor job putting a body on an opponent on the boards. We were looking for someone to block out but were very ineffective getting the job done. Gioya, Peyton and Maddie still had problems shooting BTA. I hope that is not a trend as I think we need to shoot. We haven't above 35% BTA since 2012-13 (.366) followed by .328, .348 and .315.

We need to rebound again this year like last year when we were a +2.9 for the season and a +2.5 for the conference. iIf we do not do a better job of blocking out than we did in the OP that might be difficult with K-K graduating.

Just heard Alexis Morris is headed to Baylor and Kara Ursin may be following her there

Agree or disagree with skilled if you are a part of the AAU world especially in Texas you will see he is usually correct. I don't think he necessarily thought Mulkey was a poor player but based on how you contributor at the club level determines a lot of how you can perform especially if you think you can contribute in the power 5 conferences. Mulkey is 6'9" and anyone in the power 5 will want a player of that stature but what she may be able to really contribute is yet to be seen mostly imo is who she was able to contribute at the club level in her time. For OU sake I hope she continues to get stronger and make a huge impact. But when I read on here about you all being excited for kids that Lower level schools recruit it is not going to get better for OU. It is simple when OU gets more kids that Top 10 schools want you will be happy - so as long as people keep hoping for kids that can't play at those schools OU will always be behind. No disrespect to any players but it does seem kids get overhyped on this board. Look at what colleges are offering look at what home visits they are getting. That will tell you a lot.
