Tulsa Billionaire Becomes Thunder co-owner

The ten or so new restaurants w/the accompanied retail shops seem to have made the 91st and Yale intersection a gathering place as of late.

Everybody knows Pepsi tastes better than coke.

I prefer Dr. Pepper. I think it is CRAZY that anyone would like Pepsi, and Pepsi drinkers always talk trash about Coke. Just my opinion, but Coke drinkers are better people.

I enjoyed reading this slap fest. In particular, I loved the bragging about getting chain restaurants first. WE HAD OUTBACK FIRST!!!!!

I can't believe this argument is still going on. It's like people trying to convince someone they should drink Coke instead of Pepsi. Maybe everyone should go back and forth on that as well because neither have to do with OU basketball.

I've lived in both places and they are both a great place to raise a family. I prefer OKC but that is just me. I don't work for either chamber of commerce and am not the mayor of either city so I won't try to raise one up or put another one down.
This is pretty much my attitude. I'm more biased because I live and from OKC. But that's no reason to rip Tulsa or anything. Tulsa is a nice city. This discussion shouldn't be on this board at all and I'm surprised this topic isn't locked yet. If you like Tulsa fine, if you like OKC better fine. No reason to rip the other.

The growth OKC has had since the early 00s is amazing. There was no way this would have been a pro town just over 15-20 years ago. I think Bricktown opened in what 2000? 1999? Before then downtown OKC was a dump. Just look at the two photos I posted of just about the same area, it looks totally different. But I have no reason to rip Tulsa because I don't live there, don't visit much and generally don't care and don't get why this is part of the discussion of this thread.

A Tulsa billionaire signed up for the biggest pro team in the state.

Vinny, I live in the Los Angeles area.

2.5 million people attended the Houston rodeo each of the last 2 years.

Base Pro & a cinema complex are not helping your argument.

Uh, Boca - check your stats. From the Houston Rodeo Assc.:

1,377,000 in 2014 OVER 20 DAYS 68,000 per day - yes impressive BUT not what you said - talk about inflated stats. LOL. And Houston has 8 million people. I believe OKC used to fill the National Finals Rodeo every night when it was here. Bad argument :)

Stop rolling with the stereotypes and old stories. DT Tulsa "rolls up" at 5pm? Again, 2-3 years ago you'd have been right. Now, you are just ignorant. I know that given your age you probably don't have much reason to go downtown at night, especially on the weekends. I get that. But rather than just hang on to some "old truths", if you are going to spout them all over the internet, you better make sure you know the CURRENT SITUATION. DT Tulsa stays plenty busy well into the night. Tons of restaurants stay busy. Tons of bars stay packed. And so on, and so forth. I've been down there. I've seen it with my own eyes. To suggest DT Tulsa hasn't made changes, and increased their traffic in the evenings is just silly. They have, and they are only continuing to grow.

You ask if I've been to OKC lately. If you could read, you'd see above where I told you that I was in OKC on two separate occasions just this past week. Spent three days in the DT OKC area.

A couple of other points. I'm not under 30. And STOP LYING about OneOK Field. First, you don't even know it's name, yet you live in Tulsa? lol. Second, you say it has almost all bench seating. Have you ever been to that ballpark? There is almost NO bench seating. The only benches are in the OF picnic area. Everything else is chair back seating. So.....something like 90% of their actual seats are NOT benches. Stop trolling.

I've never understood the walking argument. People can't walk, or DON'T walk, everywhere in DT OKC. Like I said, I was there last week, on two separate occasions, and saw people taking cabs, shuttles, and cars from their hotels to other DT OKC locations. Most people aren't going to walk from the Colcord or the Skirvin to Toby Keith's. Most people aren't going to walk from the Cox Center to Mantles after a game for a steak. Yes, there are certainly places you can go and enjoy one activity, and reasonably walk to another (restaurant to bar, or Thunder game to a bar), but there are also a lot of times you'd have to drive, or would choose to drive or get driven. So saying that DT Tulsa is a little spread out isn't a negative to me. I would actually argue that outside of the BOK Center, and a handful of other places, DT Tulsa is actually more "compact" than DT OKC. Not sure what street that is, but the street with the Max and all of Ewings' stuff, most of that is within 3-5 blocks of most of the restaurant/bar stuff, and OneOK Field.

And I've never heard one Tulsan that wants the Thunder to change their name to Oklahoma. That is Oklahoma City's thing. And they can have it.

Oh, one more point about walking, and River Wind Casino. Why would anybody need to walk from River Wind to some other place? It's already pretty nice, but when it's completed it will have hotel rooms, meeting areas, and entertainment stage/area, multiple restaurants, ample parking, casino gaming, and a host of other stuff, including a ferry/riverboat/peddle boat area on the river. That will take a little longer since they will have to do some river work to make it happen, but I've seen the Creek's master plans, and it is certainly going to happen. Talk about everything in ONE location.

Ugh. Please stop with your terrible guestimating on numbers. First of all, I wouldn't call many of the restaurants/bars in OKC neat. To me, they are bland. Nice? Sure. Cool? Perhaps. But their is nothing unique about them. Tulsa blows them out of the water in regards to uniqueness. And did you really just say Tulsa only has 4 hotels in DT? Seriously? You are trolling again. You say you live in Tulsa and love it, but I have lived in Tulsa longer than you have. And you clearly don't get out much, b/c a lot of what you are saying simply isn't true. It's not that you have formed an opinion that is wrong, but you are simply missing on things that are FACTUALLY untrue. The seating at OneOK Field. How busy DT stays at night. The distances one must walk to enjoy DT. The number of hotels/restaurants/bars Tulsa has DT. There are right and wrong answers to all of that stuff, and you're thoughts appear to be on the wrong side.

Wrong. Tulsa gets WAY better music acts than OKC currently. And having the BOK Center, this long after it opened, isn't the only reason.

And I already showed how dead wrong you were about OneOK Field. You've been there, but you don't know that it's entirely chair back seating? How can that be? Maybe you are like nikebasketball, and just making up everything you spout on this board?

WT - How silly are you, I was in Downtown Tulsa just last night (Sat Night) and not many folks hanging around. I was in Bricktown last TUESDAY night and 100's of people walking around doing things. That was a TUESDAY and I have been there recently on the weekend and there are several Thousand milling around. You seem to not get my posts, I do Live in Tulsa and for a few others who said why Beat down Tulsa, I have not done that but have JUST POINTED OUT FACTS and it gets WT and Boca's panties in a Wad, lol. Hey WT and Boca, why did the Tulsa Chamber ask OKC Mayor and business leaders to Tulsa 2 times lately to ask for suggestions? Hmmmmm? I think they realize they are behind many cities and need guidance. I am personal friends with one of the City leaders in OKC who came both times and I know the conversations - trust me when I tell you, unlike you two, the Tulsa city leaders know they are behind.
WT- Tell me how many "restaurants" are in the downtown Tulsa area. You keep saying Tons but I sure can't find them, LOL. There are a few but nothing in the neighborhood of OKC.

Again, I read your post and yes I have a college degree and CAN read but seems like you can't as my post said you said you were in OKC one week for 3 days each time, LOL. So before you throw rocks in your glass house READ!!

One last thing before I stop posting on this thread, I don't dislike Tulsa, I LIVE here BUT I am a realist (unlike WT and Boca) and it is very easy to see the facts of the situation and Tulsa needs to do a Lot better job. By the way, OKC is getting ready to do another 400 million worth of improvements in the downtown OKC area, including a car system like San Francisco's so Tulsa will soon be even further behind. And your comments about people in our
50's just shows how ignorant YOU are.

There is a difference between the Saturday night before Easter and a regular Tuesday night. I was at campus corner last night having a reunion with old friends and we were the only people at club 747 at 12:30 am, went to Logan's and it was the same story.

Believe me, I have been downtown Tulsa MANY weekend nights in the last year. No difference. And again I wish it was better but it is NOT.

What, not a word from you about your out right lie in regards to the seating at ONEOK Field? lol. Nobody that has been to that park would "mistakenly" say it had more benches than seats, when in fact it has NO benches. Just admit you were running your mouth, hoping not to get caught in a bold face lie? Probably lying about most of what you said. Can't be trusted.

As for what I said about visiting OKC last week, learn to read.

I said this:

b/c I spent three days in downtown OKC this past week, on two different occasions.

What I meant is that I was in OKC twice this past week, for a total of 3 days. Two days the first trip, one day the second. Maybe I didn't word that very well, but for you to flip out, uh.....

But the math works even if you misunderstood. Not sure why you suggested it didn't. Even if you think I said I spent three days in OKC this past week, twice, the math works. Three days in OKC, a day back in Tulsa, and three more in OKC. 7 days. One week. Math works. So I'm not sure about these comments from you:

You said you were in OKC last week for 3 days TWICE, bad math.

you said you were in OKC one week for 3 days each time

I didn't say either of those things.

LOL, Little Brother

Houston Rodeo is a joke. People go to see the country and western stars that perform! If there were no concerts every night, there would be tiny rodeo, at best! It's basically rodeo in name only.

Again with the Tulsa vs Denver comparison. Tulsa isn't Denver. It's not Houston. It's not SA. It's Tulsa. At least compare it to similar cities. And if you did that, I think Tulsa would stack up fairly well.

Two of the casinos are in Tulsa. One is in Catoosa.

OKC built bricks own, centennial highway, the basketball arena, the baseball stadium, developed the river, and added the tallest building in Oklahoma. I think OKC also added a performing arts center, a library and several other things. I left OKC in 94 so I don't know everything they have done but it is a lot more than Tulsa

You're having to argue so hard because you're claim is debatable. Of course people in LA & NYC feel they can fly over the entire country & not miss a thing.

Houston Rodeo total attendance all events 2.5 million.

LOL, you said Rodeo and Tycat shot you down too. Keep flying over as we DON'T need you haha. Love it just like it is. Keep your smog and crime and all the other crap that we don't have to put up with.

You mean their fake river (canal)?

#TeamTulsa

Rodeo huh? LOL. What a tool you are, Boca.

Lived in T-Town for 27 years, been in OKC for the last 15. Tulsa is prettier, OKC is better. Tulsa people rag on Bricktown, but that's where it all started, and that's where the difference lies. Everything is Central, yet it's all beginning to branch out. The Thunder... well, that makes it not even a really close race.

Tulsans despise OKC, even I did myself. In my 15 years here, I can count on one hand the number of times I've heard an OKC person rip on Tulsa. Tulsans are jealous, and the little brother syndrome is definitely there. It used to be an arrogance, now it's jealousy.

I still love Tulsa, I get up there about 10-12 times a year, and I have a good time with my family and friends when I do.... but when they all come down to OKC and I take them around, they are blown away by the progress each time.

Not. Even. Close.

Living in OKC for the past 10+ years I've met plenty of pro-OKC people rip Tulsa so to act like this is a one sided feeling is ridiculous. OKC has always been insecure back from when it was just a cow town (what city has to actually tell themselves constantly that they're a 'Big League City'?) but they actually have some great momentum now and that's awesome for OK.

I'm perfectly fine with preferring one city over the other, but to crap on Tulsa or outright lie about it (Vinny I'm not sure where you live in Tulsa, but maybe you're getting it confused with a suburb, have you been living in Coweta the whole time?) is where I draw the line.

I don't see the reason for the smear campaign against Tulsa other than that there are some deep seated insecurities with some people.

Hey you're a Big League City now, maybe act like it?

All I know is Saturday night, George Strait played in Tulsa for his final tour stop in Oklahoma, not OKC. :D Was easily the best concert my short 23 years of life have ever been to.

Maybe I'm just easy to please, but I never have any trouble finding something to do on the weekend here in Tulsa. The bars were packed last night. Took me 20 minutes just to get into legends. The bars down the street were packed as well. Not sure where this notion that downtown is dead comes from.

Read again Mackie, LOL, not smearing Tulsa - I Live here and like it - just pointing out facts and wishing Tulsa would do a better job. None of the Tulsa lovers on this thread have commented on the fact that the Tulsa leaders have twice had the OKC leadership up to Tulsa to ask what they should do to improve, hmmmmmm.
And 14, wow George Strait, I'm impressed lol. If you read my posts I said that the BOK is still getting some decent concerts being newer and all but OKC gets tons of stuff - and like someone said before the Thunder make this argument not even close. And the 3 bars downtown Tulsa being Packed is impressive :). Go to OKC during a Thunder game or a playoff game and there are literally Thousands and Thousands of people OUTSIDE the arena doing things and the 50 Restaurants (I just went to Bricktowns web-site and counted them, lol) are all full - 50 folks and that is JUST in bricktown - there are many around the bricktown area too.
