Whitney Hand-Jones @ ISU Game

You never learn anything from Colton. Whitney actually knows the players of both teams, she knows basketball, and her communication skills are in a different universe from Colton.

I like the way she saw plays coming. That one at the end of the half was great. It was probably a play she had run 100 times. She seemed to rush herself a bit. I know it's hard at first to try to get your thoughts in. As time goes along i'm sure she'll settle right in.

I agree. A little experience and she will be really good.

I expected she would do a good job but she was better than I expected. I could one day see her doing games for ESPN if she is interested.

Yeah I could certainly see the ESPN thing, but selfishly I hope she gets into coaching, joins Sherri's staff then replaces her when Sherri is ready to go.

I do too. Regardless of which direction she goes, she will most definitely be successful. .

Her husband is going to be out of the NFL next year or the year after, probably, so they may return home so that Landry can become a minister.

She might make a really good coach and I can see her landing a job on the staff sometime in the next two years.

I don't see her taking a coaching job with OU. That takes major time away from your family and do not think that would be what she or Landry would want. And would Landry come to Norman to be a minister or go to Dallas or where he is from? I could see them coming back here but also see them going back to one of their hometowns.

EDIT: Plus are they ready to live on a minister's salary? I know that some from the megachurches make money
but, even if he were to get on with one, would that be enough? He was probably counting on playing pro and making very good money, so I don't know.

I think Whitney did a good job. She's not there yet. She needs some more experience but, if she wanted to pursue it as a profession, she would probably be successful. The one thing that she will HAVE to change to make it is she will have to quit calling the players "girls" The majority of OU listeners may not mind but others do and it is not something done by professionals. You don't call the male team "boys." These players are women just as the male athletes are men.

I like the term girls much better than guys but, that's just me. I don't think most college females mind at all being referred to as girls.

I don't consider guys equivalent to girls believe that would be boys. Anyway, won't address my personal feelings, just saying that you won't hear Kara Lawson using that term. If she is going to pursue this seriously as a professional, I believe she will have to cease with "girls," that is what I am saying. Listening to Stacy Dales, Kara, Rebecca Lobo, don't believe they use the term. It isn't about what the college females like or do not like, it is about the profession. Of course, it goes without saying that I could be wrong.

The one's you mentioned above are seasoned people now. Compare Whitney to them when she has 5+ years experience. I think she will be at their level.

Landry is not from Dallas. He graduated from high school in Artesia, NM. It's Whit who's from the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Yeah and I believe Landry's whole family moved to OKC when he was playing at OU. Are they still there and/or did they move back to NM???

I am NOT putting Whitney down. I do believe she can be very good with a little more experience. My point was that ONE thing she needs to do NOW is stop with the girls. That doesn't take experience. I understand her saying it but just believe if she is serious it is something she should learn quickly.

I did not remember where he was from. At one time I knew he was from New Mexico but the town never stuck with me; however, when I posted I was thinking W. Texas. Thanks for the reminder. Memory is not what it used to be. :)

He's from Artesia. It's about halfway between Roswell and Carlsbad, in southeastern New Mexico. They're not only famous for being a smaller-town football powerhouse, they're also good in other sports as well (lots of oil money).

Interesting. I am not familiar with New Mexico. Have visited Albuquerque but never been anywhere else. Became interested in Santa Fe in 1983 but never have made it there. Imagine it is still special and would still like to visit but imagine it was more special in '83 before it became even more of a vacation spot and a place for second homes.

Also, always wanted to visit Carlsbad. Anyway, thanks for the info, it is always interesting to learn about other places.

Now, that I think about it, isn't or wasn't the University of New Mexico where many went for geology degrees in the 80's and maybe now too?

Neither is vision or reading skill apparently, at least for me. My bad, I skipped right over that "or".

Artesia is a charming small town. The Hotel Artesia has been restored by some of that oil money earned in the area, and there's what I find to be a surprising number of public sculptures in the downtown for a place of its size.

I think Whitney gained some fans in Artesia when folks down there saw her play on TV.

I was hoping that some OU fans would drive through Artesia on the way to El Paso for that OU-UTEP game. It's interesting to go there via Carlsbad, but there are no services between Whites City, NM (the turnoff to the Caverns) and the east side of El Paso. You can also get there by going west out of Artesia, past the Bulldog Bowl (a great facility for a town of 11,000), and heading through the foothills to Cloudcroft. It's actually a fairly scenic drive - 90 miles from Artesia to the main part of Cloudcroft, then you drop down the mountain fast into Alamogordo.
