WVU receives a formal invitation to join the Big 12

This is the correct decision. Its like the NFL draft where the smart teams take the best player available regardless of position.

There is no doubt West Virginia is the best program under consideration.

The Big 12's press release on this said there will be ten teams in the Big 12 beginning next season. Missouri was not included.

The only thing keeping me from telling Methzou to go blank itself is my pure, unadulterated loathing of KU.

I guess there is room to despise both...

Good thing I will always be a KStatriot.

I don't like the idea of staying at 10 teams, but other than that, good job.

You can't add one team that's about 1200-1300 miles away from most of the teams in the conference. Not unless you plan on adding a couple teams a little closer than that

But while hating KU at least they have earned respect. Missouri has been bent over for decades and it's funny to watch them all giddy about somebody else next in line for sloppy seconds.

I like the 10 team model better.

In football everybody plays 9 conference games which is 1 more than before. All we lose is the championship game which is easily replaced by OU playing OSU on that date.

In basketball we play 2 more conference games which will include an extra game vs KU & KSU and 2 more games vs WVU. A much better schedule.

Watch & see. When all is said and done the 10 team model will yield more $/team because we have just as many marquee games and are no longer subsidizing dead weight like Colorado & Missouri.

10 team model isn't bad if you are regionalized. The closest team to Morgantown of the Big 12 teams is 870 miles. And there is not an air port in Morgantown so you have to fly most of the way then drive a couple hours to get in there.

Here's the distances from Big 12 schools to Morgantown

Ames 870 miles
Lawrence 901
Manhattan 981
Stillwater 1084
Norman 1149
Ft. Worth 1240
Waco 1300
Austin 1398
Lubbock 1472

If it's a 10 team model we are going after it won't work with one team being way out there the others closer together. You know how unfair it'll be just for WVU alone having to travel all those miles? I think the Big 12 is adding at least 2 more teams for that reason. I'm not sure WVU joins the conference if they think there isn't going to be some level of expansion closer to them.

...or 80 miles since that is how far Pittsburgh is.

I live in Scottsdale nick, it's the same distance to the Tilted Kilt where the OU Club of Arizona gathers to watch games. I just want to see the best games and adding WVU is a homerun in both sports.

Boren really miss handled this conference expansion stuff. He made OU look dumb with the Pac Ten stuff. He then made OU look bad with the we prefer Louisville stuff. For the most part I think Boren has done an excellent job at OU; however, he has made two major mistakes. The first was promoting the club level at the stadium as including alcohol sales and then claiming that was never part of the deal. That was a blatant lie. I read the promotional materials and they built bars on the club level. This is the second. He just made OU look bad to the public.

Louisville and South Florida would be my top selections.

Louisville and Cincy would be the next two selections.

As for merging, I don't think so. They shouldnt go with more than 12 teams.

If you're going to spout crap like this (on a basketball forum, no less), at least be accurate.

Mizzou's more than held its own on the basketball court, with OU or anyone else, for decades.

They will one day beg for their days in the Big 12!

OU has a W-L series advantage against every Big 12 school, past or present, except KU. I realize OU-mizzOU is close but still, advantage OU.

I think this really shows the irrelevance of Mizzou since the Big 12 formation in 1996:
