WVU receives a formal invitation to join the Big 12

If proximity to alumni is a factor, there are more MU graduates living in SEC states than Big 12 states.

Missouri's 20+ year focus on the Big 10 wasn't about respect. That never had anything to do with it. The move to the SEC is purely about stability. Respect only mattered as much as it matters in any functional family, and the Big 12 is decidedly dysfunctional.

Brady Deaton tried harder than anyone to save the Big 12. It didn't work. The problems that drove four teams away and make it attractive only to teams with no where else to go persist.

Boren wanted Louisville. Most of the remaining Big 12 wanted to get back to 12. But UT didn't in either case. They ultimately made the call. If that's the conference you want to be in, have fun while it lasts.

Yes. Anyone who thinks the Big 12 WAC is a stable conference is either naive or stupid.

OU's fate rest in the hands of DeLoss Dodd. Whatever DeLoss wants, DeLoss gets. The sad part about it is most OU fans don't give a ra. It may take a few years but OU will regret the day they hitched their wagon to Texas.

Boren screwed up last year when he actually had some leverage over the PAC 12 before they signed their new contract. When the PAC 12 was no longer a viable option OU could have gone to the SEC. All of the nonsense Boren spewed out about academics was nothing but rubbish. Where is WVU academically rated? 164/169? I think they are tied with Louisville. It looks like the Big East is ready to take the Big 12 WAC and WVU to court. From what I'm hearing, they may have a strong case.

I sure am glad this conference realignment thing didn't happen in about 1998 with the way some of you guys gauge a school's worth by looking at about the last 5-10 years' W/L records and nothing more. OU would've ended up in the Sun Belt.

Mizzou got rejected by the Big 10 and has been begging the SEC for two years. I love how you make it sound like the offers were just rolling in for Mizzou right off the bat.

You got your wish, you're gonna go get rolled in the SEC and be even more forgettable than you are now, and the Big 12 got an upgrade in West Virginia.

The SEC isn't taking MU because we begged.

Brady Deaton didn't want to go to the SEC last year, and didn't this year until recently. The Big 12's inability to deal with the LHN and expansion issues were key. Deaton is a lifelong academic and I believe grew tired of what he viewed as excessive politics. We were happy with the Big 12 after Nebraska and Colorado left until Texas started flexing their muscles again, A&M left and the expansion clusterF began.

Thanks, dubyac! Sounds like a good plan. Can we assume your information came from a reliable source?

the WVU formal entry on July 1st 2012 is the date i've read from every source, they have reportedly already paid half of there exit fee and will pay the rest when they are officially granted there release... im speculating on the Louisville and Cinci info... it just seems to be the best fit... and 2013 would mean they could begin working on those schedules now... plus that 3 team cluster could be a good travel package for those easternmost schools...
